YACT: Strange noise (2000 Civic LX)

Lately, my car (2000 Honda Civic LX 5 speed) has been making a strange noise. It makes this noise right after I shift gears, and when im at high rpm's about to shift up a gear. It sounds like some kind of rattling noise...comming from under the car below the engine or somewhere around there. I dont know anything about cars, but it has me worried a little bit. It seems to be running fine, I just want to know whats causing the problem and how to fix it. Any advice is appreciated!

Check the engine mounts. If the engine is loose, it may be that at higher rpm's the acceleration causes it to shift out of position and some component is hittings something and making that rattling noise.

Have you checked all your fluids? How many miles?

: ) Amanda

Oil was just changed a few days ago...I havent touched any of the other fluids. The car has ~44k on it currently. I'm probably just going to take it to the dealer and have it looked at

This sounds like a loose heat shield on the exhaust system. Have a mechanic check it out and explain when and how you hear the noise.

My dad who heard the noise said something about the heat shield being loose also, I'll have it looked at...if that is the problem, is it an easy fix? Thanks!

That was the first thing that popped into my head.

one of the gerbles died, now at high rpms you are hearing his little bones rattling around the wheel.
you realise that is also making the remaining gerbles work alot harder. best thing to do is go to the petstore
and get a rerplacement, and don't forget to remove the bones of the dead one 😀

Yes it is very simple, get a hose clamp the diameter of the shield and loop it around the heat shield and tighten.

Thanks for the help and information everyone! I have the tools nessecary to fix it, so I'll take a look at it tomarrow and let you all know how it goes.
