So far I know of the Mazda6 S, Nissan Altima, Acura TSX, Honda Accord EX V-6, Subaru WRX. What else is out there? I'm talking about new, not used. So far the Altima is looking good.

There are more than enough car threads here to search.

and FYI, you picked the worst car out of the bunch.

Why is it the worst? Bad craftsmanship?

Edit: Scrap the G35, RX-8, the BMW, and the Lexus...I'm trying not to break $30K including options.

And the BMW 3 series doesn't realistically fall in this price range.

No, craftsmanship is excellent, as is the case with most Nissans. The driving characteristics, however, such as power delivery, suspension dynamics, and overall feel leave much to be desired. It's a qualitative assessment, not a quantitative one.

I'd be over-joyed if you could provide a little more input than just the name of the car you like. Maybe a reason why you like or, holy cow, maybe a car not on the list. I'm looking more for performance than comfort.

Thx for the input freebee. :D

The Mazda, Nissan, and Acura are FWD AFAIK. I believe the Honda is RWD and I know the Subi is AWD. I think RWD and AWD are what I should be looking for from a performance aspect, correct?

I said I believe, I did not state in fact that I knew. In fact, I had a feeling I'd be wrong so I G&L.

I guess there are no RWD sedans in this price range. :(

I rather enjoy the WRX due to its neutral feel, its very well balanced between sport and everyday utility. One thing I've always enjoyed in Subies (and perhaps exhibited to a greater degree in BMWs) is the very precise steering that is maintained under power. Most front-wheel drive cars are not able to duplicate that level of precision, though Honda/Acura are both very, very good.

You need to drive to sedans at either end of the spectrum and find a mid-point in which you are comfortable. For example, test the very capable Honda Accord coupe, then test an equally capable Sti. They each excel in their respective markets, though they have very different functions. By exploring the two extremes, you will get a grasp on what you truly want in a sports sedan.

...there's an STi in the garage out back.

Maybe I could squeeze in an EVO VIII for under $30K, that would be nice. If not, I've been eying a WRX for a few years.

I know exactly what I want: speed and the ability to carry more than 1 passenger comfortably(roominess).

Don't forget the SAAB 9-3. Just had one for a 24hr test drive and it was outstanding. You can get one with decent options for under 30K. Till the end of the month there is a $2000 factory to dealer incentive that the dealer will not tell you about unless you are part of the "Supplier program".

Go with the Evo. Once you test drive both you will definately notice that the Evo is MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE than the STi.

The ride isn't that bad, the back seats are comfortable IMO but the fronts are a little too rigid. It's got tons of pick-up and go, though. I dunno, it'd be a little weird having an EVO and my brother having the STi. I'll definitely check it out, the dealership in town has a red one out front. I guess I just need to get out and start test driving.

Well, the honda clearly is not RWD.

An RX8 with a couple of options can be had for 30k and I'd urge you to get in one before concluding that it won't seat people in the back. I've sat in the back of one and it will seat two adults _comfortably_.

Don't buy an altima. They are boring. Everyone has one, and their interior is sh*t.

TSX doesn't have enough horsepower to really compete with the others on the highway.

Man, and here I was all disapointed when I saw this thread wasn't started by Aimster.
