so what happens if the gap is set larger/smaller than the official specs?

Would a slightly larger gap intensify the spark?

You'll notice a performance drop. They print those specs for the hell of it.

I guess I should edit this.
I change the gaps on my plugs depending on application.

if you're gap is to large and not to spec you can misfire in your cylinder and then b00m not good.
