On my way to work this morning I noticed an accident in the far left lane. I merged into the center lane behind a tractor-trailer to avoid the back up. Another vehicle merging from the on ramp decided to across the right lane into my lane, center, cutting me off. In an attempt to brake to avoid hitting this car an then I had to steer into the left lane because I wasn't stopping fast enough. This silver car continued merging into the left lane from the center lane forcing me on to the shoulder to avoid hitting it. This caused my car to spin out of control and turned sideways in the far left lane. The a new Ford 500 hits my Escort GT broadside in the driver?s door pushing me into the median. Once the dust settled everyone in the other car was OK and I am fine but my driver?s side of my car is totaled. It looks like after 12 years and 210K miles my little Escort GT has finally come to the end.
I?ll post pictures later tonight once I get home.

I'm taking it to the bodyshop tomorrow to get an estimate but I skeptical that it will cost less than it is worth to fix it.
Update: The body shop gave me an estimate of $850 to repair both door pillars, straighten the fender and quarter panel, and paint my replacement door. I have a door that I bought over the summer. I'm not sure if I want to put this kind of money in a car that is almost 13 years old and has 210K miles but the car runs great and I haven't found a comparable car for less than a $1000. This car is a daily driver just to get me to work and back. On the other hand car is drivable and I really need to do is tape off the gap at the top of the door.
What do you guys or gals think I should do?
