ugh...let me preface this by saying that I hate trucks. Anyway, he got this. All 112 HP of short-bed stepside suckness. Is there ANYTHING i can do to improve the performance or livability of this, within reason? I like coupes, and I'm really concerned that this is gonna suck horribly. Any suggestions?

My suggestion is that if you don't like it, buy your own vehicle.

well, maybe it was a little misleading to say free...:) I'm 17, and i've been using the family cars (van, 3-series) for my entire driving career. Now, evidently, this is the only thing i'll be allowed to drive. I'm just wondering of there are any good things to look into out there.

Your entire driving career? That's what, a whole year, plus all that time while you were learning?

I laugh.

Learn to enjoy it as a beater - You may not be able to go fast with it, but if you had a nice fast sports coupe, would you want to take it off-roading? You can do things with a truck you can't do with a car, so enjoy it for what it is.

Mmmm, Ford Rangery Goodness!!!

Well, since you're used to driving a van, howsa 'bout a straight swap for my '96, 150K Aerostar?;)

Btw, how can you hate any kind of vehicle that is free?

Upgradeability - I suppose if you have the dough, you could probably swap out the 2.3L 4-banger for the 3.0L V6 that is also offered for the Ranger. Probably wouldn't make alot of sense, financially, but there you go. Also, didn't Ford offer a 4.0L V6 in the Ranger for a short time? If so, that might be another option.

Liveability - How about a killer sound system? Isn't that what you youngsters find cool, nowadays? :D

Good for you! I wish I had the, uh, whatever it is, to do that. I suppose after working now I could but I love the car my parents got me, or, gave me rather, since they bought it new and drove it many years before giving it to me. Had I not liked the car I would have simply saved money from working to replace it with something to my liking.

To the poster. Don't complain. You just might end up liking the truck for all you know.

God, there's a bunch of spoiled pissant brats on this board. :disgust:

My dad wouldn't even co-sign a loan for me to get my first car, I'd have worshipped the ground he walked on if he'd provided me a vehicle I could drive.

be glad you got a truck. You can now haul things around in it, do stupid stunts, and it's rwd(right wheel drive) meaning it's all that much more fun in the winter. you were given something newish. If you get the time and money, you could always make it a home for a 302, but you don't sound like a hands-on mechanical type of guy.

A friend of mine stuck a 302 in one, but then it got hit by a snow plow. My first car was a 1980 PLymouth Champ with a whole 77HP and a 3 speed auto! Upto about 45-60MPH it would get out run by my sister's 53HP bug w/ 4 speed manual.

I've never had a vehicle that new, let alone have one given to me. Stop complaining, and just drive the truck

As for upgrades, I think putting a couple stickers on it will get you 5-10hp.
