YACT: Snow tires Dilemma **UPDATED**

Lifer
Alright as a lot of you know
I'm running an IS300 and the Winter is upon us.

I currently have a brand new set of Blizzak LM-22 17" ready to go.

Today I came across a set of 16" with Nokian Snow tires /w rims

Which do you think would be a better option ?

**UPDATE**

Woohoo Decided to go with the 16" rims with Nokian Tires for $550 shipped.

Sold my 4 blizzak 17" tires for $475

Sell Blizzaks, buy Nokians... as long as tread width is similar or small on the Nokians. I'm going to run my friggin Kumho MXes until it darn well snows...

then I'll switch over to the crap all-season Michelins I have on my stock rims. No use pounding nice rims with Jersey road salt. BTW, if you have stocker rims with the old all-seasons still, those should be sufficient for conservative winter weather driving.

I have stock 17's and I was thinking about upgrading to 18's next summer.
But the Nokians being smaller would be better for the snow no?

I know other IS300 owners that used all seasons, and they said dedicated snow tires is the only way to go.

I would get a seperate tire/wheel package for the snows because you save yourself the trouble an money of having to mount, umount and remount your summers after winter is over.

Blizzak is aterrible tire. Get the Nokian hands down. Scandinavian tires are the only ones that actually work in winter conditions. The rest is targeted to autobahn users and milder winter climate.

ditto, they charge $18 to mount per tire at my local tire store.. it adds up.

2 reasons why you should get the rim/tire combo.

1.do you really want your nice rims to go through winter? they'll prolly get hacked up quicker.
2 to make your winter tires last longer, they shoudl be rotated the next season. most rwd cars have bigger rw tires than fronts, making the rotation impossible, lessening the treadlife of the tire. (not sure how your car's set up tho..)

It's 9 bucks per tire at BJ's ..

Right now I decided on the 16" and I already have a buyer for the Blizzaks for $475 for the set which is about 50 bucks off the selling price at tirerack.

I'm just waiting for the guy to let me know if the first purchaser falls through.

The front and rear are the same size the Sportscross comes with diff size wheels on the rear than the front.

Btw from all the reviews from users Blizzaks are one of the best snowtires around.
Why do you say Blizzaks are horrible tires ? (FrustratedUser)

Blizzaks are great snow tires, but because of the way they are made they are only good for 1.5 to 2 winter seasons. Then they lose their efffectiveness, even though they have plenty of tread life left.

skinnier is definitely better.
also i'd get a tire with more flex (not as low profile)

i have 16's on my car for summer, and 15" winter tires for winter.
skinnier, and taller sidewall. makes for better maneuvering in the snow.
