Depends on the state.

Go to a glass shop NOW, and they ought to be able to repair it. If you wait too long, it will grow, and they'll have to replace the whole thing.

those windshield repair kits do a good job. you almost won't notice it after. just get one at any auto parts store.

I didn't have any luck with it when I tried. Considering how little it costs to go to a glass shop, I'd recommend that...and I'm usually a DIY sort of guy.

We'll look into the repair now that you guys mention it. We'll ask the mechanic then call the insurance company to see if they'll cover it without a deductable. If they don't we'll get one of these syringe kits for a temporary patch-me-up.

You are getting a lot of good advice that you are not listening too.

Total cost for repair is under $15 if you do it now, on your own, with a syringe kit.
If you do not seal it now, the cracks will get bigger.

I had an identical situation happen to my new car back in '93. I fixed the chip and cracks with a syringe windshield repair kit for $5 and this repair lasted for the life of the car, which I just sold three weeks ago. That windshield repair survived through all its years in the cold, northern climate.

There is no need for a mechanic or insurance. Just visit a hardware store or auto parts store, purchase the kit, repair the windshield, and the repair will last forever.

Sounds good, we'll get it repaired tomorrow, if not by mechanic/insurance then with DIY syringe. Can you mess up while doing the repair yourself?

I do not believe so. It is fairly simple if you follow the directions. I do not remember if it requires a single epoxy glue or two that will combine. Just be sure to have something similar to a popsicle stick or piece of cardboard with a flat surface, to spread any extra glue on the surface. Also, be sure to insert the glue slowly into the cracks to allow it to completely fill in the cracks from the inside.

I just remembered that I have also repaired a large front window on my home with one of these syringe repair kits. The repair still lasts now about five years later. This was a BB hole that went completely through the outer pane of glass and had started to develop a crescent shaped crack to it. Rather than replace the whole front window, the $15 glue solved the problem. I rarely noticed the crack afterwards on my car and have to seriously search for that BB hole in the front window now. From my experience, that syringe window repair glue works perfectly.

The inside of the windshield is smooth, but the outside has a chip with small cracks extending from it. It's very small, are there any repairs or remedies that can be done? My mom said the mechanic could glaze it? What are your suggestions? Thanks!

Sometimes I have to remind myself that there are places in this country where a cracked windshield is a big deal.
