YACT: Should I turn myself in?

Well, to the DMV that is😉

The story goes like this: I registered my car in Aug 2004 and paid a farking $260 to the Washington state to get license plate and registration. Now I've moved back in California and have been too lazy to go to DMV to change address and everything. I am wondering if I go to DMV, will I be required to register the vehicle in CA immediately? I'd really hope they can wait til Aug but I am not counting on it.

🙁

Well I know when I moved from Montreal to Vancouver I had one month to transfer my stuff. Afetr that if I was pulled over I could have gotten a fine.

Best bet is to call. Besides you should be able to get a refund from Washington for the time that you did not live there.

Dont you have to live in a state for 2 years before you become a citizen? you did say "move back" though.

I've been going to school in NY for 4 years, and I spent the majority of each year in NY, but I have yet to register my car over to NY. I doubt theres really anything they can do to you if you dont do it.

Weird timing.

I JUST got back from the DMV myself.

Lesson learned. You have 30 days to change title or registration. Do it late = $50.00 fine/fee. 🙁

not only that, but in CA we have a state website that allows and encourages people to turn in their neighbors for this infraction! Big Brother wants YOU to help in the war against out-of-state plates! so don't piss off any of your neighbors, and lie about when you moved!

Don't listen to these guys.
I have a Fla license and I've been here 3 months already.
If you ever get stopped, just tell them you're visiting.....How can they tell ??

Your registration date is the same as mine, in August.
If I decide to stay here past August, I'll register in Cali.
I'm saving money until August of 2005 to register in what ever state I decide to stay in.

Like CTrain said, how did they find out that you've stayed here for more than 30 days?

What a wonderful place to live...

CA rules is this:

within 10 days of business here (job or settling) you got to get a CA licnece
within 15 days or is it 30 you got to get a CA plate.

There ARE exceptions however.

When I was stationed there in the service I did NOT have to get a Cali. plate.

Worked out REAL well to, considering it was during the 70's "Gas Shortage". Everyone with Cali. plates got gas on odd or even days. People with out of state plates could get gas whenever. 🙂

Wait - wait - wait. I'm going to be spending 20 days in CA with my own vehicle (potentially, depending on which is cheaper, driving 3 tons of hardware cross country, or shipping it) on business - according to that I require a CA license? Retarded kthx. I'll stick to my Maryland tags and license and stay away from the CHIPS.

Hmm, I moved to NYC but my car remains in MD. I haven't changed my registration or my license yet ... what to do?

Ok. But my question is....how do they find out? It's almost impossible to tell how long one person has been in the state.

Move your registration and license, the new fee structure in Maryland is omgwtflame. Please don't feed these imbeciles any money that they don't deserve.

You have 30 days from the time you establish residency. If you still have property in the other state and a mailing address there, you can legally keep your car registered in the other state.

Oh great... I JUST got plates for Illinois for my Accord in December, along with Insurance... I'm going to be in Missouri (St. Louis) until August ... don't tell me I have to pay for Missouri plates and register for a MO license... 🙁
