YACT: Should I replace the whole car seat or go with "seat covers"

I love my gas-guzzling 1995 Chevy Tahoe and its big-block V8 and dual exhaust.

The drivers seat is gray leather and is nearly completely ripped out in the seat and has lost some foam.

Can I get away with buying leather seat covers? The whole seat is tough to find on ebay but goes for $300 to $800 shipped. A leather seat cover is about $125.

Just curious to know if anyone had luck with leather seat covers. Sorry, the sheepskin cover thing is just not going to happen.

Does it feel comfortable to sit?

If so you might get the factory/OEM seat covers.
I know for my BMW they have it.

Tahoe is like the high-end 40k+ SUV. They should definitely have it too.

A seat cover will just make it look nice, but you said it lost some foam so maybe a new seat would be better. I am sure you can get a nice used one for $200 at some junkyard.

I have checked the salvage yards here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area without success.

I would guess that part of the problem is most leather seats that are ~10 years old all have some cracking and aren't in the best shape.

I guess I will be going with the whole seat if I can find it, just curious how a seat cover would look. Too tacky I bet.
