Hi all,

Need some advice on a car...I've in the market for a used car and wanted to avoid Honda, Nissan, and Toyota. I've been looking at older Volvos (S40) and Volkswagens (Passat). Anyhow, here's whats available to me.

Asking Price: $10,000

Here are the specs:

Year: 2000
Make: Volvo
Model: S40
Engine: 4 - Cyl., 1.9L
Transmission: Automatic
Mileage: 73500
Exterior Color: Blue - Metallic
Interior Color: Gray
Doors: 4
Sunroof
Cassette
CD Player
Leather Seats
Anti Lock Breaks
Driver Airbag
Passanger Airbag
Side Airbag
Air Conditioning
Cruise Control
Power Locks
Power Windows
Power Seats
Keyless Entry Systems
Tilt Steering wheel
Tachometer
Rear Window Defroster

Thanks for the help!

Hmm, can't speak on S/V40's but I do know that historically Volvo's tend to be very good cars (aside from anything with a V6).

Volvo's are nice. They're tanks.

As for the price, it looks good. Edmunds says it's worth about 12.5k with the options you've listed in "Clean" condition.

If you can get it down to say 9.5, it would be excellent indeed.

Why does a car 3 years old have that many miles on it? Those better be highway miles. The low price is somewhat suspicious.

S40 is their low end model.
even brand new I don't think it's that expensive.

is that the turbo charged model ?

S40 is their low end model.

A low end volvo is still a volvo. They arent cheap.

is that the turbo charged model ?

AFAIK all S40's come with a 1.9L Turbo.

The milage on the car is a little high, but the S40 is a nice car. I especially like the wagons.

Yea, it seems they all come with a turbo.

I wouldn't be worried about the miles, especially if they have documented service... They really are tanks, AFAIK they all use cast iron engine blocks.. they will almost literally run forever...

How would you rate volo's in comparison to other vehicles?

I really haven't heard acclaim towards volvo for any reason other than safety, although their safety curtains for the 1st 2nd and 3rd rows definitely merit credit.

I saw one while @ Subway and I must say the interior caught my eye...must have been aligaor-leather or something...it just looked that good....not green however....

Volvos are nice ... though a friend of mine had the turbo die on his ... It was like 10 or 11 years old, and it woulda costed like 2K to fix. Of course in the volvo he had prior to that one, he got into a really bad wreck, and if he were in a little honda or toyota, he probably wouldn't have survived .... so I would say, the price looks good, the car is solid, go for it as long as YOU like it.
