Time to get the wife a mini-van.
Several models already eliminated (thank you, Intarweb) and several moved up the pile.
The trade in is a 2002 VW Bora Variant.... or for you VW noobs, a Jetta Wagon. GL, but with sunroof, alloys, Monsoon, power windows (that was an option?!?!) Almost 50K miles. Car is in perfect mechanical condition. New tires. Had air-dam damage (kept scraping front spoiler on curbs pulling in/out of parking spaces.
Decided it's "good."
First question: KBB says it's $9675. Even Fair it's $8000.
Can I expect that as a trade in?
Second question: One of the vans we're looking at, a Hyundai Entouragem, is at a dealership that sent out $6000 rebate checks. The car has a $500 rebate from the factory. They also sent out a "you may also win the following rebate...." envelopes that say "Do not open unless cheap suit is present." You can hold it up to the light and see that it says "$4500." I'm sure they did that on purpose.
So that would mean $11000 in rebate. Seems rather unrealistic.
This particular van has an MSRP of $28795. Edmund's gives a price of $26492.
Assuming I can get this car for $26492 before trade in at any other dealer, should I expect a final price of $17795 before trade in, after rebates, for this same van at the dealership with all of the rebate coupons?
Sounds too good to be true?
