YACT: Second Car Thread This Week

Ok, It looks like my 2003 Saab 93 Linear (Manual) will have only 30,000 miles at the end of my lease.

I can purchase it for $13,500 at the end of the lease...

Couldn't I sell the car for more than that?

either keep it or let the lease run out. don't buy it out and then try to resell for more money. it won't be worth the hassle and time you will have to put into it and you probably won't make much if any off of it anyway.

Per KBB, the trade-in value of it, in excellent shape is about $15,650K. I didn't put in any options, so if you have any extra toys on it (moon roof, nav, etc.) it'll be worth a bit more. This is trade-in value. Looking at the Seattle paper, I see two dealers selling them for about $22K. Private party value is about $19,180 I'd guess you could probably sell it for about $18K to another individual. If you did a trade-in immediately, you'd probably about break even, depending on the market for Saabs in your area.

I believe you'll also pay sales tax on the purchase amount, but that might vary in your area - Something to check into.

So, if you're absolutely itching to buy another car and have time to buy and then resell it, you'll come out a few grand ahead, but it'll be a lot of hassle. If you're generally happy with the car, buy it and keep it.
