Hey ATOT, I fell in love with the Honda S2000, but the only thing I'm not in love with is its practicality. I will be giving my brother my Toyota Tundra when he starts driving (end of summer), and he'll let me use it for Home Depot or Costco runs. Can you fit anything into the trunk of an S2000? Is it a smart choice? An awesome car?

Damn I wish I had a brother that would give me a Toyota Tundra. On The S2000 question, I doubt it has very much cargo space.

Some might call me spoiled, but my parents gave me that car, and I don't want to be selfish and keep 2 cars, so I'll give it to my brother (safe against SUV's for a beginning driver.

And the S2000 has 5 cu. ft of cargo space! :p

Trunk is tiny. The car itself is tiny.

But it's fun little go-cart. Absolute blast to drive. But it's not the most comfortable car to drive so I wouldn't advise driving long distance everyday.

How old are you? Insurance is very expensive on S2000.

I can, but I was worried if the trunk's size would render it useless. I think for everyday, it's fine, it's just those Costco or Home Depot trips that wouldn't be possible.

I drive 6 miles to school and back daily, and 2 miles to the gym and back four times a week, and go to friend's houses, but they're all nearby. I rarely do freeway driving and have never been in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Insurance is killer on it

if you want a convertible that you can actually save it at its limit, go miata.

If you want a fast car in that price range, get a 350z or a used evo/sti or modded wrx, GTO, or stang gt

Miata or Solstice would be cheaper and nearly as fun, though the Soltice probably won't have the build quality of the Honda.

It would be tempting to get an STi for that price...speed + practicality, but the AWD doesn't benefit you that much in CA.

It's 5 cu ft. Two golf bags and two pairs of shoes fit perfect...

You get used to it. Keep the revs low and it basically drives like a Civic.

I had one for about three years...

You can hold about a week's worth of groceries...

You're not gonna fit much from Home Depot...

It's stiff.

Yes, compared to a Cadillac or a Buick, but drive a Corvette to get the definition of stiff.

Corvette is not stiff. It's plush and absolutely one of the most comfortable sports car out there.

I owned S2000 and I currently own 07 Corvette coupe so I know firsthand.

I should have been more specific; Z06.

On another note, how do you like the car?

My friend has an '06 VY C6 Z06, and I drove it. I expected the ride to be back breaking harsh given the reviews I've read but it wasn't so at all. Granted I only drove it a short time but my initial impression was it was comfortable ride. Lot firmer than my base vette but still less so than S2000 IMO.

As for my car, I  it. Car feels like a boat sometimes and steering feedback isn't the greatest compared to the Boxster and the S2000 I had before, but everything else makes up for it. Torque is addicting.

90's corvettes were known for being incredibly stiff, they've probably figured out how to make them handle well without being so stiff these days.

I drive a '97 Town Car, which is probably one of the floatiest cars out there, so I'd probably be baffled by the ride in an S2000.

I will be 17 years old when it's time to buy a car, and I'll probably get raped on the insurance. I'll be buying my next car used. A GTO is awesome because of its depreciation (used), and HP, but I don't need an even bigger gas guzzler than my truck. Same with the Stang GT. Also, these domestics don't have the build quality of Japanese cars that actually built in Japan, or the refinement of German cars. An EVO/STi is going to be extremely abused (used), and the insurance is even higher. Those two hold the #1/2 highest insurance premiums in the US. A modded WRX is going to be so abused that it won't be worth the problems.

On a positive note, I'm thinking about the 350Z, since it has much more torque than the S2000 while having the same MPG, but is slower off the line (convertible). I would want to get the coupe, then, but then I wouldn't have the convertible like the S2000 would have. Also, in the twisties, the S2000 would hand it its ass. Also, the 350Z is a bit too common, but not as common as the TL/G35 I was thinking about buying.

I need something reliable, and under $25K used. The S2000 is on par with the Boxster S, not the Boxster.

17 years old and 2 seat sportscar? :Q

Ouch on insurance. I would call and get quotes on insurance before buying anything. I can tell you that insurance on my brand new vette is cheaper than it was on a 5 year old S2000. That's even with totaled S2000 on my record. That's one benefit of buying a car driven predominately by old men.

If your budget is 25k or under, I would suggest also looking at C5 vettes. '01 C5 Z06 sell for about 24-25k. I had a chance to pickup '01 black C5 Z06 with 32k miles for $25,000 last fall but passed because I didn't care for the color.

S2000 is definitely a fun car. I wouldn't mind picking up another in the future since I didn't get to fully enjoy the one I had.
