YACT: Right blinker causes headlights to shut off

Car is a 95' Mazda Protege as stated in summary line.

Whenever I turn right and flick the signal upwards, it blinks my head lights and sometimes kills them completely. It's as if the car feels like I'm turning off my lights (the dash lights die, clock goes from dim to bright).

Left switch works fine. I can turn the signal to the right turning position and barely touch the signal and it will come in and out.

Any ideas?

the dimmer portion of the turnsignal assembly is shorting out. you need to replace it, and it is probably a complete assembly.
