YACT: repair manuals....

I am trying to fix up my car (finally). I started by trying to replace the front head light. I was shocked to discover that i had to take off a number of things (wheel, battery...) just to access the screws to chnage the light. There a way to do this with out taking anythgin out besides the head light? Also, who makes a better repair manual, Chilton's or Haynes?

Both of those books have their upsides, but they're best used as paper weights. If you're serious about working on your car then get the factory service manuals.

What make/model is this?

I never heard of a car that you had to take off the wheels and the battery to change the headlights. usually a piece of the grill will screw off.

oh...it's a 2001 altima...sorry, i thought all cars had a similair way to take off the headlights.

I know on some later Chryslers you have to remove the wheel to change the battery...that's why I was thinking it may have been a Stratus.

Some cars, headlight removal is kind of a pain. Just make sure that when you do get the old bulb out, DO NOT touch the glass on the new one with your bare skin - unless you want to do it all over again next week.
