Researching for a relative (college kid)... basic necessities:
- sedan
- japanese maker
- $5k limit

The rest is open... of course I looked up Accords/Civics first and even for a 10-year old car, they can be $5k. Is there something you could recommend that wouldn't be as old ? There's obviously many models that would qualify so...

In general, what's a good used car for that price ?

I found a couple nice Eclipses but too small for him to haul family around when needed... I'm sure he would've loved it...

Yeah, I was going to suggest any DSM you could find in relatively good shape (even better if it was AWD). They seem like very fun little cars. I wanted one really bad in HS.

I do see a few Outbacks and Legacys that fall into the price range... even a 2002 Lancer. Are they reliable ?

Between the two you mentioned, I'd stick to looking for Accords as older Accords sell for less than older Civics. Older Sentras might be worth a look as well and you could probably find a higher mileage Protege.

If you're looking to get something from this millenium, it might be hard to find a car with low miles, in good condition, and of a Japanese make. In fact, if it weren't for that last criterion, a 2000+ Ford Focus or Escort would do very well for you.

Do not go for Eclipses. They are girly cars.

Go for Sentra or some Honda crap.

Mazda Protege if you want something newer. Honda Accord if you're willing to go older. The late 90's Accords are good vehicles.

Really?

I had a '90 Plymouth Laser (aka Eclipse) and loved it.

I must be into girly cars because now I have a RAV4. :brokenheart:

lexus sc300 on ebay motors or vehix for about 8k also for 8k u can get a 3000gt, albiet not a fast one. For 8k u can get a lot more. If you make monthly payments, you can afford 8k.

your options are the galant, altima, accord, camry, or even maxima ranging from 96' to 00' (mid-size), or the protege, corolla (prizm), civic, mirage, or maybe the ford focus (it's american)

of the ones i mentioned, my favorite is the maxima, but bear in mind that it drinks premium. so i'd look for a camry/accord or a newer altima (98' or newer). i'd also look into a 01- present hyundai elentra.

Sentra or Altima due to lower resale than Civic/Accord/Camry/Corolla and similar reliability and good gas mileage.
