YACT: Quickest way to pull speakers from 89 Tempo?

I've got 24 hours to do the "Car Thief Special" on this POS Tempo before it's destined for the dump. Upon Crutchfielding, the door speakers are apparently 6.5"s - identical to the size of the empty holes in the rear deck of my Civic.

Given the final destination of the car, what's the best way to get them out with as little damage to the speakers as possible? And also, is there anything else worth yanking? (Rear decks are 6x8", factory stereo.)

Get out there with a flash light and just start looking at how the interior panel is attached. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Use a screwdriver to pop the clips that hold the panel to the door. If it has roll-up windows, there will be an "e" clip that holds the crank on. Use two flat blade screwdrivers or a small needle-nose pliers between the panel and the crank to pop the clip off the crank.

Dude, unless yours are blown the ones in the tempo will sound worse.

EDIT: Sorry, missed the part about not having rears. Heh. I guess I shouldn't have just put the speakers out of my parents' camry out on the curb when I upgraded them:p They were only a year old too.

:(

And this was a "grandmother car". I doubt the stereo's even been on, never mind up past a quarter. ;)

Just cut around the speaker grill then unscrew the speakers from the door and unplug or cut the wires.

What's wrong w/the car? Other than being an 89 Tempo I mean. You could probably get a few bucks for it on Ebay.

As for the speakers, they won't plug right in to your Civic. Factory speakers usually have proprietary plugs that vary by manufacturer. You'd have to cut the wiring harnesses that go with the speakers, then cut the existing plugs on your car and solder the wires up.

As for the speakers, your best bet would be to take out any screws holding the door panel on, and then find a large flat screwdriver and pry off the door panels. They're held on by probably 2 or 3 screws (in the door handle, maybe?) and a bunch of plastic clips. After those panels are off, it'll be cake to get the speakers out.

Needs a steering rack. And it's a Tempo, ffs. :p

Might as well try rather than just send them to the dump.

Even a busted car will get a few bucks on ebay. Especially if the rest of the car is in nice shape. If it runs, that's a bonus. Think of it this way...if you ebayed it, with no reserve, and got $150 out of it, you could buy nice 6.5"s, and have $100 left over to spend on hookers and booze. :D

Trust me - it's crap. It needs $2K in work just to pass the safety - and then start on the rusted-out body, sh!tty paint, smoker's interior ... :p

Well...."nice" is a relative term. Compared to the 15 year old stock gems Ford stuck in the Tempo, $10 would buy you "nice" speakers :p. I was thinking about maybe some low end JBLs or something, not a set of MB Quarts. :p

And M4H, if the rest of the car is that ragged, JY is your only option. Or donate it, and get a tax write-off. You mentioned "little old lady" car, so I was thinking it was in nice shape.
