ouch

That would be mud, water, and metal in the fluid. Take special note of the magnet in the upper left corner. I wiped my finger across it to give you an idea of how much metal is stuck to it.

The debris on the filter is mud.

its faintly red. The funny thing is that the fluid smells fine, not burnt.

quite possibly. :wink;

The good news is that it came in through the pan seal. Apparently 2 bolts came alittle loose. As you can see, the mud on the fliter is where the pump is. I think that the mud may not have gotten intot he valve body and therefore the tranny may be saved. The problem was the the transmission was not pumping enough fluid back into itself. 8 quarts came out when i dropped the pan, there should only have been 4-5.

What made you decide to open it up? How many miles on it?

Love the Hawaii pics BTW!

Man, even if it's OK.. i bet it significantly reduced the potential life of the tranny.

it has been on its last legs for a long time. 1-2 shift was always alittle delayed and very stiff. If it survives this, i'll just keep pushing it til it dies :D

Drain the convertor if you can.

If you can't change the fluid again in about a week worth of driving, 250-500 miles.

He can't. Late model Chrysler products don't have drain plugs and I wouldn't recommend trying to install one because of potential damage to the torque converter clutch.

you are correct sir.

Right now i have to diagnose the no start issue. The battery does not have enough power on its own to start the car. I f i jump it, the starter just whirs endlessly. Apparently, I have a dead battery and a bad starter :frown:
