I'm preparing to travel about 1800 miles sometime soon, then I'll be doing the trip again early next year, and maybe again early next year.

What should I do to my car to prepare it? Are there any parts that are notorious for breaking during long trips?

I just got the oil changed and the catalytic converter/muffler replaced. Aside from a tune up and new tires, is there anything I need to get done?

Not really. Sounds like you've got the basics covered.

That's good. The idea of breaking down in rural Alabama at 8pm isn't that appealing. ;)

Of course, you'll want to check and top off all fluids, visually inspect your belts for cracks, frays and proper tension.. general stuff like that.

Cool. I have a slow leak in my radiator, so I'm going to get that fixed.

I also need to not eat at Krystal in Birmingham like I did last time. I ate there on the way down, and I was in the ER getting offered IV fluids the next morning.

Yeah, I have some CDs. I like listening to the radio.

I've made the trip before, but it was always in haste. I never really checked anything and just prayed that I wouldn't break down. I want to make sure everything is running smoothly this time.
