YACT : Power Steering Blew...

So was having trouble with power steering, thought it was just leaking, so i had filled it up with a new bottle and was dirving back home. All of the sudden *POP* one of the boots around the tie rod pops and spews power steering fluid everywhere resulting in a big white plum behind me. Scarry for the driver behind me to say the least, and making my car very difficult to drive.
So fast forward to today take it to repair shop and they say the boots need to be replaced along with the rack and pinon. Total cost from the shop is somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 but they say they can get it done by sunday.
Now This is a recently purchased used car but i got a 30K warrenty from ford dealership on it that says it will cover all power steering malfuntions. It has a $100 deductable, so thats not too bad, but they want to charge me $85 jsut to look at it of course, and i wont be able to get my car in to even be checked until monday.
So the questions are what would be the better route? shop or dealer? secondly, how might i get reemed by the dealer? will the %85 if i go to the dealer be included in the deductable if they replace and repair everything?
thanks for any help!

Usually the diagnostic fee that dealers charge will be bundled into the price of the repair if you decide to get it done, you should only have to pay the $100 deductable in that case. Call the dealer to make sure.

Dealer, if you can wait it out.

Agreed, probably a better quality of mechanic and all oem parts. Also, you might void any dealer warranty on that power steering unit in the future by having someone else work on it.

yeah that's what i was thinking. if they don't bundle it, bitch and make a scene and maybe they will.

The situation itself isn't funny, but I laughed out loud when I read the first paragraph and was envisioning the oh, so scary big white plum behind him!

Hope you can get the repairs done with only the deductible as your cost.
