EDIT 07/13/06
I am leaving work today at 3:30 to guy buy it! Im really excited. Due to my great negotiating skills with another guy who is selling the same type of G6, i got it down to 11,350! I have saved a lot of money, and now I can get some nice rims for it! (it comes with hubcaps)

The car is red, 4 door, auto, cd player, adjustable pedals, 4 cyl, with 13K miles. I got it for 11,350.

Hello all,
So recently I came upon a 2006 pontiac G6 that is privately owned (no tax) for 15,000. Well that wasnt a very good deal, so I thought I would email the guy and tell him I could only 12,500. He emailed me back and said 13K is the lower is will go. Well I emailed him again and said "All I got is 12,500, if you want to make a deal give me a call, or otherwise talk to others."

Well he emailed me back today and said that 12,500 is the lowest he will consider. So i said OK, and hopefully we can set up a test drive tonight or tomorrow.

Anyways, here are the specs on the car:
4 dr
red exterior
Black interior
15K miles
Remaining balance of factory warranty (3 yrs, 36K)
4 cyl
Automatic

all for 12,500. Hopefully i can get it.

But anyways, heres what my original question was:
Anyone ever have an experience with one of these cars? I havent driven one yet, I have only seen them. But so far, I really like what I see. I will hopefully drive it in the next couple days.

Experience: GOOD / BAD?

EDIT: I forgot to add, its not a salvage title!!!

I am on a business vacation and this is the car that the rental place gave to me. It is a really nice car (although I may be biased since the only car that I have ever owned is a 2001 Toyota Corolla with no electronic door locks or windows). The car has a sunroof, and is the interior is black and very sheek. I love how the car looks and it is really fun to drive. The only complaint that I would have is the fact that the trunk is a bit small. Other than that, it has been awesome so far.

in most cases, you pay tax when you register your car at your local DMV. this is true for NY.

the price is only fair, not that hot. pretty bad residual value.

Yeah I am thinking I might go with a civic or accord because they have much better residual value.

No, there isnt sales tax on private party sales inaz. You have to pay to registration fees for a year, but everyone has to do that.

Had one as a rental while in Baltimore/DC. Do a car-fax!

The 4cyl was adequate, gas mileage was poor though. The automatic trans hunted for gears, was very touchy with its downshifts and just all around sucked.

The driver seat was good, manula + power controls worked well. The passenger seat was non-adjustable in height and that was an issue, as it sat really low. Fine for tall passengers though.

Handling was fine, soaked up the bumps well, the 16" hubcapped wheels were fine although wheels would have looked much better.

The stereo was nice, lots of room in the rear seat. I liked the trunk. We crammed two large suitcases plus the smaller rolling carryon + a backpack in the trunk. Its a good 14cu ft I think.

For $12,500 you would be hard pressed to get a better car.

I'd rather have my gf's 01 Saturn L200. 2.2L Ecotec, automatic, great handling, same overboosted steering, and great mileage. She usually got 25-26 city and 30-32 highway. From what I've heard, GM's only made that powertrain worse later on.

Still, an 06 for $12.5K can't be all that bad. Least you're not taking the depreciation hit ;)

I've owned a 2005 G6 GT and I now own a 2006 G6 GTP. I also drove a the 2006 G6 V6 as a rental for a month. I like all of thoes; the GTP is awesome. :) I have not driven the 4 cylinder version. I know the base six cylinder can get 30 mpg highway and about 23 mpg city... and it gets worse for the GT and GTP.

I've heard of brand new 4 cylinders going for as low as $13,000 to $14,000 at dealers, but that could be just BS advertising.

If you like the way it drives, I'd say go for it!

My friend has a brand new G6 GT 4 door. Great looking car! Not bad inside either. Not a speed demon but not too bad.

I think the 4 drs are great looking cars!

I like how it looks. I think Toyota had a part in the design of the G6 with GM? (I read it somewhere but obviously not 100% sure from where and if it was a reliable source.)
I've never driven one but would love to drive one for fun.

Yes, it is alot of Toyota in that car. Dad works for GM and he was ordering parts directly from the toyota warehouse for one.

The car is awesome, one of the best I4 engines on the market. Will be decently tourquy and they are underrated from factory. On the 5-spds they are constantly dynoing over stock.

They are a solid car, fantastic engine, and nice clean look...

To add a bit: it's a safe car, in my opinion.

In May I was t-boned while driving about 50mph in my 2005 GT. Over $7,000 worth of damage. I walked away without a bruise or scratch. The other car hit my passenger side. Destroyed both doors, the middle column, the rear quarter panel, and bent/broke the unibody on that side. Despite all of that, the car did not cave in on the passenger side AND the windows didn't break. I was very impressed with how the car absorbed the impact.

Otherwise, pretty good car.

We rented a g6 and it saved my life. A truck with a trailer changed lanes across a gore on the freewat and didnt see that he was turning into me directly. I had no choice but to floor it and the awesome acceleration barely got me by the idiot. Needless to say if I had been driving my usual nissan sentra i would have been seriously injured.

If you are talking about what I thinkg you are talking about it should drive the same as my 99 grand am. The wheel is VERY sensitive and it takes getting used to but once I did it was the nicest handling car I have ever driven. Mine was a 2 door though so I can't speak for the 4 door, but man that thing handled incredibly.
