YACT POLL: getting a car alarm from fry's, good or bad

been thinking about getting a clifford 2-way pager alarm (matrix 10.5) for my new gs-r for a while. i'm debating where i should get it done: at a nearby fry's or a car audio shop in daly city.

my dad says that the good thing about fry's is that it's big and if i have problems with the alarm, they'll be there to back it up. the shop in daly city is a recommendation by a friend who's had his car worked on there but could fold at any time. i've heard numerous places that the install is more important than the type of alarm. of course, i want the best for my baby.

so what do you guys think? my dad says that even at the shop, the manager can hire some deadbeat off the street. i talked to the main install crew at frys and the main guy seemed alright, but kinda cocky. haven't met the crew in daly city. hrmph...

Iono, but read your insurance policy. Sometimes installing an aftermarket alarm will make the insurance company be a bitch about paying you if the car gets stolen because the more advanced ones on newer cars often bypass the factory security features of the car and so the insurance company will try to not pay you.

Oh yea, and have you considered the Viper 5000?

Installation is way more important.

Its the luck of the draw, the only advantage over Fry's is that they might be authorized dealers so they can send their crew to training shop like how Epson/HP have classes for the laser printers when I was techie back then.

I had my installed at "mom and pop shop" thats been in business for 20 years. I had one issue with my clifford. The reciever just died, so I took back thinking they would make go thru clifford. Nope, he switch it out and said no charge. This was 4 years later too! I was shock, usually these mom and pop shops give you hard time. Then again, the owner knew me by face cause I've been going to his shop since I was 16.
