So I'd like to get my windows tinted on the I30. My brother (2000 dodge avenger) got a tint job about 4 years ago and it looks like junk now. It's dark purple color and you can see his rear defrost lines because their are lines/bubbles in them.

I'm thinking that 20% all around will be effective enough to keep the inside of the car cool without being too hard to see out of at night. It's illegal to do less than 35% in Ky, so I'm worried the shop won't guarantee their work or make me pay cash with no receipt or something. I've heard shops won't do less than the state minimum unless those conditions are met (cash + no warranty).

How do you expect to pass inspection every year if you go under the limit ? Just something to think about - not sure if they even check that.

Find a place that uses Lumar brand Tint.

As far as tinting goes. I have 30% all around on my car. If you have a black interior, it looks like 20-25%.
I haven't been harassed by the cops at all yet, and it keeps the car cool :)
The place I got mine done registered all the info of my car into their computer system.
I live in NJ but got it done in NY. ( it's illegal to have the front tinted in NJ but not in NY )
I received Lifetime Warranty and If I decide that the tint is not looking like it's suppose to, i can bring it in and they'll redo it for free :)
Total cost was like $220-240 I believe.

Anyone know how much the reflective (silver fade) tint costs ? I was quoted $350 (NY) and I think it'll look good with my gray exterior.

The place I got mine done does reflective tints as well, and I think it's cheaper than $350.

I've never heard of an inspection? Must not do that here. Cars of tints of every single type.... red reflective, mirror tint, dark dark dark black, etc.

Don't expect anyone to start jumping at the opportunity to do warranty work. I promise they'll give you hell over it.

I got mine done at 22% (32 is the limit here in GA) and I've gotten pulled over once for it, and asked about it once. Never got a ticket. (told them the truth; I'm too broke to have it removed..) I think they were using it as an excuse to pull me over, and the second cop pulled next to me at a red light, asked me how dark my windows were. I told him I think like 20 or 25%, that it's illegal and I know it, and I'm sorry... He told me to have a nice night and that if I had told him 32 he would have pulled me over and ticketed me..

I got the 3m brand of metallic tint on my truck about 5 years ago(not mirrored) 20% on driver/pass door, 5% on back window. I've never had problems with the police about it. The tint looks great except where I tore it ): I paid $180 and the rules you mentioned apply ( no receipt, warranty )

I'm not worried about the warranty work at all.
I got recommended by another person that the tinting guy use to work for and told me he's an honest person.
I had no trouble getting the Receipt, and Warranty papers.
If they dont offer you the receipt and warranty papers, I would avoid them.

Sorry I forgot not all states have inspections... I need to get out more. ;) We pay $35 annually for garages/gas stations to do a point-to-point inspection (brakes, lights, exhaust, etc.)... emissions control. I wonder why they don't even do that in Cali where there are too many cars on the road.
