Uhhh maintanence costs come to mind. As well as hit or miss reliability.

And I'm a current (and past) VW owner.

It all depends where you take it....

I don't care where you take them. The problem is with the parts. They are a rip off.

i'm in the same boat as you. personally, i like the CL. but a 4door accord is more practical. my beef with the civics are the size, in case i ever have to move anything a considerable distance. otherwise, i love the fuel economy.... tell me what you get.

i've been in the back seat of that first model of CL and it was pretty damn comfy and easy to get in and out of. actually slightly easier than the second model CL, since the second model had power slide front seats you had to wait for. the second model CL i actually like sitting in the back better than the front (unless i was driving, it was fun to drive)

I pick Lexus ES300.

Had one about that mileage and year (dont remember exactly)... it was running great (very smooth ride, with adequate power. It's a v6 engine so keep in mind gas mileage though) till I totaled it. It was pretty horrific accident, but I credit that car completely for saving my life and left me without a scratch.

I'm skeptical of that one. It's priced WAAAY below what it *technically* should be, even with the milage. Somebody is overly eager to get rid of it.
I agree. I would go for the 98 Camry LE. The price is right and I think that you would appreciate the LE model over the newer CE.

I'm going to have to agree with vi_edit here, even though I'm a huge VW/Audi fanboy and current VW owner I'd stay away with that price range. If he went for something like a Passat it would be 97-98 (?) and there are some reliability issues that are fixed in the 2000+ ones (control arms come to mind).

Isn't the only difference between the LE and CE cruise control? My parents' CE has power locks/windows and a cd/cassette stereo. No cruise tho (and its a 5-speed).

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not 100% sure, but at the advice/assistance of my family, the decision between:

(1) a mid-90s $5,000 import that will have 120ish thousand miles and no warranty versus

(2) a late-90s $8,000 import that will have 80ish thousand miles and includes a warranty

is an easy decision. They said my payment on $9000 will $200 / month for 4 year financing... I'll also be getting a 2 year power train warranty. So, by making double payments (pretty much the cost of my single car payment now) I'll be able to pay my car off in 2-3 years and it will be covered by a power train warranty at that time. Also, I'll be getting a car I want, with features I want, rather than making an impulse buying decision like I did with the Civic. I'll never do that again.

I'll be sure to check out the G20, ES300, the CLs, and look for more Accords.

Surprised noone recommended the Maximas / I30s like I thought they would.
