YACT: Pick the car for me to buy, and why.

I am 21 and I have some important goals with this nonprogrammable decision of buying a car: (1) Spend as little money as possible for a car I like that will last 60k+ more miles (3+ years). Requirements: Japanese. Sunroof. Automatic. Less than 100k miles. No trucks or SUVs. Less than $9,000. Choose your top 3 and please tell me why. Thanks fellers =)

Ok..... I'll go first. My top 3 picks are the '99 white G20, the 1999 max for $7995, and the '99 Camry w/ 56k for $8485. Your thoughts?

Any of the Camrys even tho they're piss slow. This is only because the two Accords are also the gutless ones.

Look for more Honda Accords 🙂 I got my 97 EX V6 (leather, moonroof, 6cd changer, 57k miles etc.)for $8,300 in January, and its a beautiful car 🙂 www.idonk.com/accord.htm for some pics (the car is dirty and parked, but you get the general idea).

(#8) 1998 TOYOTA CAMRY LE ..... 4 door, automatic, a/c, spoiler, power windows/locks/moonroof, tilt, cruise, cass/CD changer, 62K with WARRANTY!!! $8995

Price, age, warranty, reliability of Toyota.

G20 is prolly the best choice even though it's a tad smaller car. Good solid engine and the fit and finish on the car is quite good.

I never really liked the way the CLs looked. Otherwise, I vote Skoorb... I mean Maxima.

If you look lexus, how about an IS300?

I agree 1000%. He'd be a complete fool not to buy an IS300 with less than 100k for $9000.

No, he'd be a fool to buy an IS300 with less than 100K for $9000. Like bbronto said, it'd have to be majorly fvcked up to run $9K. Edmunds is showing a 2001 Private party for about $19.5K.

duh

How much are you really saving buying anyone of those cars? I'd be looking for something cheaper. Its not worth the hassle of selling your 02 civic, getting new title, tax, registration for new car. I'd be looking at 6k and lower.

Check out the Infiniti G20. It's NOT based on the Sentra, before people start going off on that.

It has the 2L Sr20DE 4-cyl making 140hp. Mind you, this car is SLOW..but it is fun to drive with its sweet suspension. You also get the sweet Infiniti service...for a low price.

At this point, I'd just start combing over service history and seeing which ones received the most TLC. I'd also compare insurance costs.

Some cars may be lemons and if you have service history showing that, you can avoid them.

2001 camry, very reliable car, far insurance

I'm skeptical of that one. It's priced WAAAY below what it *technically* should be, even with the milage. Somebody is overly eager to get rid of it.

ummm why not try Audi or VW? DEfinitely more class and style than mid-life-crisis wagons (camry, maxima etc)

Uhhh maintanence costs come to mind. As well as hit or miss reliability.

And I'm a current (and past) VW owner.
