Rep. Michael Garcia, D-Aurora, has proposed two measures that would put new restrictions on drivers with cell phones. The first bill would make it illegal to use anything but a hands-free cell phone while driving. His other bill would prevent those with learner?s permits from ever using a phone while they are at the wheel.

I'd love to see this one done throughout the nation.

They need a no blow job/slow driving in any lane bill. That's a major problem in America.

Janklow killed a man and got 100 days in the pokey!

The problem with the driving laws is sitting in the warm benches in all your state legislatures. They have kids, relatives, and constituents who complain about getting tickets and the fear of losing their licenses. Here in FLorida you could have run over all the preachers coming out of First Calvary after the Jesus movie was shown and not lost your license. Traffic court is run by lawyers who have no clue what they are doing but are practicing to become District Court judges. DUIs are routinely reduced to reckless driving. The state legislature here in Florida recently passed a law that you can't be ticketed by radar unless you are going more than 10 miles per hour over the speed limit! Holy S+++! Do you want to be driving on I-4 when some 70 year old guy with diabetes, glaucoma, gout, cerebral palsy, and tachycardia arrhythmia is driving 75 in a 65? In the rain? On bald tires in an old pickup?

If the states don't start showing the cujones necessary to stop this madness I would support a federal driving permit with uniform standards for everyone.

It's a shame today's cars and roads are so safe. It's really slowing down the process of natural selection in eliminating stupid drivers from the gene pool. I suppose it's hoping too much for repeat offenders to lose both their license and their reproductive equipment.

(But you must admit, that would be tremendous incentive for young men to drive carefully. :) )
