YACT: Optima batteries?

Any good/bad feedback on these? I do no offroading, but was thinking of getting a red top since sometimes my car sits for a few weeks and the battery goes dead. Optima claims even their red top (not the deep cycle) can sit longer between charges than a lead acid battery. Also might be nice to listen to stereo with engine not running without worrying about it running down.

I was just looking at these this morning. I don't know if my battery is dieing or not but I needed to have a replacement all lined up.

Anyways, I here nothing but good things about them and the red top is the right one to get. Do not get the yellow because it is meant as a back up battery, not to be used for starting the car every day.

I think another conpany makes a battery called Excite or Excide, something like that. It is very similar and is cheaper than the Optimas.

they are all I will run.. have had one in my truck since the first week I got it. No having to worry about corrosion or cold starts.. turns over every time no matter how cold.

i swear by their batteries. my friend had a used one sitting in his garage for a year and it didn't fit his car so he gave it to me. i put it in and it started up my car so quick and strongly i was surprised. i even deep cycled it a few times by accident (lights on) and it had no problems recharging. I used it for 4 more years after that and sold it with the car... it was still doing great...

I haven't heard of another like it. Here is Exide's website.

That's the company. Over on the VWforum, the favor Optimas but some have had good experinces with the Exide batteries. Pep boys carries Optimas and they are usually at a good price. You can also order directly from the company that makes them and the shipping is free. The battery would cost me $109 from Pep Boys plus 8.25% tax while ordering from Optima is $124 for the same battery. Not that much of a difference.

We used to run normal street rated batteries in our dragster and the battery box was mounted right behind the rearend so it shook the crap out of the batteries. We'd run them for a year and then throw the battery in the truck until it died and we had it replaced under warranty.

Got one of these batteries and used it the last 5 years. Rock solid, never dead on us. We sold the car and the battery went with it. We will be getting a new one for our new dragster.

Optoma's are pretty good. They're similar (though not nearly as good) as Odyssey Batteries (Black Panther), which are true deep cycle batteries (can withstand over 400 100% cycles).

Called Costco. The guy said the only Optima red top that came up (was looking in the computer I guess) was the 75/35. I think I was told I need the 34 group instead, though they seem about the same size.
Also, this says they're lead acid. I thought they were gel batteries, and were not lead acid, which was the main difference in them an regular batteries?
And no, Sam's doesn't sell 'em.

Optima batteries rule. I got my last battery replaced under warranty, but when i am out of warranty and if i ever need a battery, Optima for sure.

Wow. I don't have a Costco membership though. What about Sam's?

Sam's has a partnership with Exide to sell batteries (I just got one there last week). I did not see any non-Exide batteries available. Optima batteries rule.

I've heard that Optima batteries are excellent.

Any of you guys have any experience with Stinger batteries? Are they up to par with the Optimas?

optima's are great... the redtop is the one for regular use i believe... the yellow top is the deep cycle battery... my friend explained the whole deal to me earlier, how it holds charge longer (without being used) and is meant for electronic stuff to be used w/o the car on, etc, etc. He has it as his secondary battery in his suv which is totally tricked out for off roading... REAL off-roading! i was like wow!

Yeah, I later said Sam's doesn't (see post 11/10/2003 1:51 PM).
