YACT: Opinions on the Mazda Protege5?

  • Thread starter Thread starter

My '96 Sentra has been giving me MANY problems over the last few weeks. To list a few:
  • Check Engine Light: new oxygen sensor
  • Flat tire (not the car's fault, I know)
  • Dead battery
  • Check engine light (went on yesterday), code indicates a faulty or dirty EGR Valve
Considering that the car's almost 8 years old, I'm starting to browse for new cars. I really really really like the practicality and the look of a hatch, and the Protege5 seems like a great pick. My family had a '95 626 and a '98 626, and neither gave us ANY trouble.

Any ATers drive Protege5s? I'm looking for opinions on ride, comfort, style, quality, etc. By the way, it can be had for just over $18,000 with the options I want (ABS, moonroof, side airbags).

It would be cheaper to fix the old car than pay for a new one.

Good point...however, the time I've wasted waiting for AAA to come and give me a jump, plus getting rides to and from the mechanics' shop is also something to consider. It's more convenient to have a new car and nothing to worry about in terms of repairs.

Two of those things were not the fault of the car, dead battery, and flat tire.
So you're left with the oxygen sensor and dirty EGR valve... What a piece of sh!t!!

heh seriously, buy a new car over those two little parts?

At anyrate, I've driven a late model protege before and it's nothing special considering you already have an adequate car.
