If she was in the left lane and you pulled into the left lane, she would not be at fault, as she was already there and has the right of way.

The lane hasn't even started yet. So how could she have right of way?????

what is the space that they grey car, and the front of the red car are in? What is Is that not a lane? If the left lane is not a lane, and only starts at the turn lane what is it a few feet back?

Pfft. I've heard plenty of stories like that. Including a friend of mine who was driving in the snow, his car spun out, then he regained control of it. A van that was behind him rearended him and the cops said HE was at fault. What a pile. I think they just show up and flip a coin or whoever has the bigger tits wins.
Technically if you lost control of the vehicle you're at fault. The cops were likely looking at that and not whether or not the other guy was driving too close/etc.

He'd regained control of the vehicle before the guy hit him. The tracks in the snow indicated as much. Plus its not like he slip backwards into the vehicle. But like I said, flip a coin.

Umm, it's call the on coming traffic lane. I you wish to take the right of way against on coming traffic, be my guest.

a woman did that to me in a car park she pulled to the side i overtook (Doing about 5 mph) then she kept going and turned into the front of my car. Shes trying to claim on my insurance for a broken arm!

how did u make that diagram?

I did it with Paint Shop Pro 8. I made a 600x1200 image, filled it with the bucket tool (it had an asphalt "texture"), drew a few lines, then put the cars in. I didn't want to draw the cars, so I went to Google and did an image search for "car top". It was one of the first results. All I did to the car image was change the color with the Color To Target tool and rotate it for my needs.

In other news, I'm going to be building 2 brand new computers for a friend on Wednesday or Thursday. They're going to be nice gaming computers. $$$$ 😀

Sorry to hear about this. The old lady probably has a spotless record, and here you are with almost no record at all. Didn't the cop mention anything at all about her crossing the double yellow? Personally, I don't pay a hell of a lot of attention to those lines either, though I'm always on the alert for someone doing what you did.

I've heard a cop could technically give a ticket for doing what she did, but I've always felt it was more important to free up the lane going straight, than to worry about "staying in the lines". Guess I'm just a free spirit that way! 😛

Yea, I agree. I'd usually have no problem crossing a double line a bit early to get into a turn lane. Note the arrows in the diagram though. The ends of this particular turn lane were for cars from both directions of traffic...so I made sure to cross when it was legal to do so.

Anyone who uses turn signals ALL THE TIME would state it. I'm surprised you didn't say you always use turn signals. Do you ?

screw all the retards in this thread saying you were at fault. You got hit by a schmuck that doesn't know how to drive - don't let anyone tell you differently.

Yes, I always use my turn signals. It really pisses me off when others do not. I made it clear to the officer that I used my signal.
