YACT: Ok, so the car is probably going to be sold today, what about the title?

People are driving up from South Carolina (!!!) and will be here about 3pm today. When they pay me with cash, do I simply sign the back of the title and give it to them?

Do I have to fill in all the registration / odometer / transferor/ transforee stuff? The sale stuff? My dad told me all I have to do is sign the top line of the title and hand it to them when I sell the car, but he always leases cars so I don't think he is car smart all the time 😉 Help me out! =)

In California, there's a "release of liability" part of the pink slip. The buyer signs that and you give that to the DMV. Once the DMV recieves that, they effectively have proof that any parking tickets, accidents, and all registration dealings aren't your problem.

So I have to go to the DMV when I sell the car? I thought had to do that crap. Grr.

They have to go to the DMV to register it, all you effectively do is drop off a part, they'll stamp it (w/ the date), place it in an inbox, and you walk out. They have to get the car registered and go through the long part of the process.

Why don't you just call the local DMV and ask them, don't forget to mention that it is an out of state buyer.

The only thing you have to do in NC is sign the Title and have some one notrize it, the rest is up to them after they give me the cash
