YACT: oil question

DaWhim

Lifer
what is for summer oil and what is for winter oil? I always mix it up.

I think 5w-30 for winter; 10w-30 for summer, right? I think I am correct. anyone got an easier way to remember this?

I never change the oil type in the winter vs. summer. Then again, I live in Texas. The only that does get changed is the ratio of antifreeze and water.

Theres not a lot fo diff. between 5w30 and 10w30. I run 10w30 as it doe snot get that cold here in NC and I don;t want anything to thin since I have turbo.

So either one should be ok. Just change it every 5k or so and DON'T use fram/autolite filters.

Depends on the climate really... but mostly you want lower weights for colder weather. I use 5W-30 or 10W-30 in the summer months and 0W-30 in the winter months. I initially thought that since both oils flow at temparatures as low as -57 F, the difference wouldn't be much. Then one day when it was -30 out, I left one quart of each outside overnight and the next morning, the 0W poured out a lot quicker than the 5W did. I switched to 0W.
