What seal would cause Oil in the transmission fluid and Oil pan level to drop?

Rear seals normally result in a large Oil leak.

This is a 1998 Dodge Caravan

The broken seal would cause the transmission fluid levels to drop.

If the diff and tranny are back to back, they could swap oil. and then your diff would probably blow up sooner or later, because ATF is so light.
and clutchpack et al would go in the tranny with normal oil eh?

Rear main seal is on the engine. This would be engine oil, not transmission fluid.

Possibly the transmission pan gasket is leaking?

Transmission level was full but smelled super burnt and oily.

This is new. I check the tranny fluid when I change the oil. It wasn't like this 2 weeks ago.

Tranny full, Oil off the stick, also burnt smell.

Light haze of smoke coming from underneath.

Hey, if you are willing to give up that engine on that van... (I have a caravan that needs an engine [gotta replace my Prix]) 🙂

I'm leaving work now and will stop at closet Gas station and fill oil up till stick is full and see what happens.

Nothing I can do about the tranny slipping.
