YACT: Odd Engine Noise

Basically, whenever I either use engine braking, or when i take load off the engine (let off the gas, push in the clutch (but only AT pushing in the clutch. coasting, it's fine)), it will cause the sound coming from the engine to change drastically.

Basically, it gets louder, to the point where it drowns out the rest of the engine noise. i'm struggling on how to describe the noise.

anyone got any ideas on how i could record the noise?

Is this a new sound (I assume it is)?

Does it sound like the engine is "humming?"

it's not that new of a sound, but it's been getting progressively more often.

awhile ago, it would only happen after the car had been running for a fairly long period of time. my daily commute is approximately 20 miles each way, and near my house there's a long steep hill i do engine braking in 2nd gear down. that's where i noticed it first.

but now, it will happen even if the car's been cold.

as far as the engine humming, maybe. toyota's are fairly quiet cars, but relatively it sounds alot like a bumblebee buzzing right near your head. 😛

Sounds like it could be a throwout bearing or possibly a transmission bearing.

That'd be my guess. Might as well do the clutch at the same time, if thats the issue.
