YACT: no more manuals on M series

It was one of three options:

SMG Only
Carbon/Ceramic Clutch (Uber-Expensive)
Replace Clutch Every 5k Miles For n00b M-Series owners.

That's complete crap. I'm sorry, manumatic or not, The Ultimate Driving Machine MUST be offered with a manual transmission. End of story.

Porsche went away with the formula one style shifting of makes like Ferarri and BMW because Porsche said they didn't feel a sequential transmission was adequate enough for the Carerra GT.

The Carerra GT has one wicked clutch setup. 6.7 inches in diameter and ceramic.

I think sequential transmissions are going to make strong grounds in the performance area (already have), however, manuals should remain an option.

Actually, the system Porsche was developing for the Carrera GT went over-budget and was behind schedule. Rather than delay the release of the car, Porsche opted for the standard transmission.

SMG will shift faster than I can ever hope to. If I was spending that kind of money, I'd want the SMG anyway.

Total BS.

Looks like people may go for an S4 instead.

If I were in the market, I would.

Being able to arbitratily select gears is slower, but more fun. You can sneak a 5-2 downshift and catch someone off guard 🙂

...or just drive it RIGHT with a normal clutch...I mean, I doubt clutches are covered under warranty for "normal wear".

I dunno...sure, the SMG shifts faster, but it's still not as fun as a full-blown manual.

It would be nice to have a system where you had the stick and clutch, but could choose to use paddle shifters during a race...sort of like those arcade machines...it'll never happen though.

What I would like to see is something sort of like that setup but without the clutch pedal. An electronically linked gearshift with a conventional gated pattern. To me, it's just easier to remember which gear is which with a conventional shift gate because the physical position of the gearshift is unique to each gear.
