UPDATE: I went to the dealer today and spoke to the service manager. He tried to buff the scratches out, but about half of them were still there. So, Honda will be paying for a new windshield for me. They'll order it today, and it should arrive to the service department next week. 🙂
Exactly a month ago today, I picked up my new car. What I didn't realize, however (and who checks for this?!) was that the wiper BLADE (the soft rubber part) wasn't completely fastened into the wiper ARM (the metal part that's driven by the motor).
I didn't realize this until one rainy day, when my wiper began to make a strange noise. I pulled into a parking lot, realized that the blade was a bit messed up, fit it back into the arm, and was on my way.
Fast forward to today. During a full-out detail (vacuum, interior protectant, wash, polish, wax, windows), I realized that the marks on my windshield which I thought were just dirt that wiper blades naturally make (you know, the rainbow shaped outlines of the wiper pattern) are actually very deep scratches in my windshield that I can feel with my fingernail when I run it across them. These are a direct result of the assembly defect on my car, and were formed when the wiper arm ran across the windshield instead of the blade.
I'll go to the dealer sometime this week or next, but realistically, what are the chances of the dealer replacing the windshield under warranty? There's absolutely no reason why I would have fooled around with the wiper blades, so it's definitely not my fault and I have no reason to lie about the damage. But will the dealer claim that I should have noticed that the wiper blades weren't assembled properly? I want a new windshield (or at least, the scratches buffed out), so how can I get this taken care of?
Thanks.
