Is this decent for the price? I don't have much to work with and I mainly have to deal locally (or at least with a bordering state). I like the fact that its a convertible. The reason I can go as high as that price is because I'd be trading in my dying Merc 300D (250k) so I'm not sure how much he'd give me for it, but every little would help. I'm only supposed to be spending 4k. I'm planning on this car lasting for the next five years (throughout college).

What do you guys think? Perhaps there's something on autotrader that looks like a better deal? Doesn't have to be a convertible mustang. I'm in 29607 so keep in mind I'd rather not travel too far.

Have you seen it in person, I'm usually leary about cars with covertibles or T-tops as they will leak over time.

I could be wrong but that seems high, compared to the prices of some 98 GT's I saw when buying my 03 mustang.

How much do you think they were? The 98 GT's you saw? I'm kinda a car noob so I'm not sure how well this deal is.

Feel free to recommend some cars. I'm not necessarily looking for a mustang. Anything that's decent and will last me throughout college would be great. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any cheap mustangs around my area.

I'd look for a honda/toyota/nissan for something to get you through college.

I'm glad I talked to friend too. He said the same thing, it seems a little overpriced. I guess I'll keep searching. Is 140-150k miles on an accord/civic too much? I'm not sure if I can find a nice one for the price I've got.

If it appears to have been taken care of it should be just fine. Make sure the belts and water pump have been changed too.

NO NO...NO...did i say NO?

i love mustangs to death and have had plenty....but this is a HUGE ripoff...

1) its a POS v6...that alone is enough to deter me
2) its old...old mustangs that havent been taken care of are going to have major problems
3) unless the top has been replaced...it probably leaks...badly
4) you can get a better deal...

i personally would go with a 96+ v8 (4.6l) because the engine has been proven time and time again in many fords (my grand marquis has 234k and runs strong) a convertible v8 ..97-98 will run about 6k if you can find a good deal...try to get one under 100k and well maintained...preferably southern car

Your calling the 4.6l proven compared to the 5.0l hahaha. The 4.6l is a good engine but the 5.0l has been around a little while :). I'd much rather have the 94/95 with a 5.0l then the 96-98 4.6l unless its a cobra. The 99+ 4.6l are much better but I'm a power guy.

Anyway yes that one is overpriced. I figured it was a 5.0l when I saw the price and was set to say yeah thats a decent deal but not for a v6.

First thing to look at when buying a car is the reliabitlity in the long run. If you are getting a car with close to 100000 miles there WILL be problems, its just a matter of what will go wrong and whether it will cost an arm and a leg to replace.

I would recommend the usual Civic/Coralla if you want a car for 5 yrs but how about a 2000 Mazda Protege ??
You can find one around 60K miles under $5K.

Or a Civic Coupe 97-00.
Nice looking body style and there are plenty under $5K.

Well you're an idiot. The 3.8l is an okay engine other then some headgasket issues early on and the trans is fine. It would last fine unless he plans to put another 100k + miles on it it over the next 5 years. Its just overpriced. I'm sure it would have some problems but so will any old car at some point.

Go look on autotrader.com. Just withen 100 miles of your zip there are 23 94 + mustangs for under $5500 including this 2000 v6 coupe with 90k miles for $3500. Surely you can drive 2 hours to get a car.

WTF? trading in a benz diesel for a mustang for reliability?

300D's run forever.. mustangs, well.. I'm suprised you found a running '94.

anyways, in my experience, a german car with 250k is going to be in better shape than a base model domestic with 90k :D
esp. diesel

Ou not bad. I'll keep that one in mind. I want to first take a look at the mustang though.

I've heard of a Mercedes that went to several (4 I think) million kilometers. Used as taxi in Greece, and as fuel transport to Yugoslavia during the war/embargo, and so on - some 1960-early 1970 build.
Yes, a 300D might run forever - but it isn't by no means a 10-years old car. And for power, it is pretty much underpowered - even compared to my 1.8l gasoline VW Passat (built in '92).
Those cars are reliable - they have other problems (doors tend not to close perfectly, bodywork starts to rust, and so on)
