Heres my situation guys... two years ago I decided to put a sytem into my jetta... I didnt have a ton of money at the time so I got a Kenwood Deck, Fosgate Amp and some kenwood subs... the amp is pretty much shot, and the subs just arent worth anything. Since I have gotten my Mercedes, I just decided to rebuild the system, starting with a new Alpine mp3 deck. I figured that I should just start fresh and heres what I was looking at

Amp

The amp retails for 999, but is selling now for 399. I have no problem spending the money, because my rockford fosgate amp for 300 bucks last year. Would you guys guess that since its 2000 freaking watts that it would have 4 gauges inputs?

I was looking to get maybe a since 10 or even a 15 and saw one of these.

Sub

The specs seem very nice, and for a 10 its like 230 bucks and for a 15 its 300 bucks. Right now I am just decided what the hell I should do, because it sucks to have a nice deck and no subs :( Basically I am looking for the best sounding system I can get.. thanks for any tips

from what i have heard, audiobahn is not quite the best amps out there. and it probably wont put out 2000 watts.

those subs probably arent worth it either.

i HIGHLY HIGHLY reccomend www.edesignaudio.com (elemental designs) small online company, GREAT subs, GREAT prices.

get a 15A and put it in a ported enclosure and run it with about 1000 watts, from a tsunami 1100d (they sell them there too) and you will be in pain.

or you could seal it off.

or buy a 12O from them and get some insanely deep base in a sealed enclosure. call them and talk to them, they will tell you stuff. they are pretty honest too.

if you could look at the fuses for that amp, take the amp ratings, x the amount of them (persay 3 40 amp) you get 120 amps, and at 14.4 volts, 120*14.4volts = 1728watts of power, assuming the amp is 100% efficeint (ha yea right) but then the load also limits it.

the subs of elemental designs are VERY well priced, and sound amazing.

(i just happen to have 4 of their 12k's and a tsunami 1100d) :)

oh yea, you would probably want higher than 4 ga wire for that, 1/0 should be really nice.

check out www.knukonceptz.com AMAZING stuff, and very very decent prices.

THANKS.

I will read up on them and see what they have to offer.... I was looking up reviews on that amp and every single one was postivie... the amp isnt some el cheapo generic brand, but at this point I am still looking to see whats out there. Basically anything I get is going to blow away what I have now. I really dont have any brand prefence, but have been told to stay away from cetrain brands.. so at this point I am pretty open. Thanks again for the help, I am going to go down to the local high end audio place and see if I can get some straight answers from them about what is going to just sound the best.

Eemental subs absolutely rock also!

you need to describe what you want and the $ to spend

Ok that JBL looks good... I have about $800-1000 to spend between the sub and the amp...I am already 350 into it with my headunit.. I already have the box from my previous install, but I am open to just about anything that is going to give me GOOD quality. I am going to probaly order everything within the next week or so, so I was just looking to get some ideas.

I run a Brahma, absolutely love it. Thats what I would recommend, but its the most expensive of the three.

Amps? JBL.

Damn that Brahma looks NICE. Do you think that JBL 1200 would be able to power it? And do you have any opinions on the Audiobahn amp in my first post? And if I decided to go with one, where can they be purchased? Thanks

The Brahma is very nice. Trust me on that, alot of very happy users. It uses a new motor technology which doesnt suffer from power compression as badly as others, so power is more application dependent. a 1200 watter would be droolicious on it. I'm hittin mine with 1500 watts, its a bit much (In fact I've burned up my coils once......)
So yes, a JBL 1200.1 would be a perfect match for a Brahma in a smaller sealed box. And they can take VERY small boxes.
As for Audiobahn, I've never used them. And I never will. If that tells you anything.

If you are interested in a Brahma, give Adire a call if you have any questions on it. There very good fellas over there, or even drop them a email. They have an "Official" forum on
Acoustic Visions.

EXCELLENT info. Sorry for all the questions, but what would you recommened for the perfect size for lets say the 12" Brahma? Do you run yours at 2 ohms? My Kenwoods were pretty much CRAP, and my fosgate amp is shot to death so its time for an upgrade. And now that I acuatly have some money to spend, I am just looking for the best I can get for my money. I also tried to go onto Adire's ordering page, but I got some error... i'll have to give them a call tomorrow and get all my questions answered. Thanks again

Well, there isnt a "best" per se, but Brahma is unquestionably one of the top contenders out there. Right up there with Resonant Engineering, ED's, JL W7's.....
Actually, the Brahma is DVC 2 ohm, so your wiring options will be either 1 ohm or 4 ohm. I run mine at 1 ohm to get the most power out of my amp.
Box size? Alot of guys run right around 1 ft^3, my box is 1.5 ft^3. So, you can run anywhere between there. Also, you dont HAVE to run massive power to it. It depends how much bass you want. If you want it loud, run 1000+. If you just look for a nice smooth low end response, you could go 600-1000.

This will give you an idea of the power handling for the sub

I am sure that I will be BLOWN away from whatever I decide to get... this Brahma are looking awesome though... I went on to there dealer site, and they said they are backordered till 10/1, which is ok I guess while I get everything together... Right now I have a dual 12" box that has 1.25 cubic feet per side... I am just going to have to buy a new box alltogether or just cut the other one in half. So you think for the 280 bucks or so for that JBL 1200.1 would be PLENTY for this? And can the JBL go down to 1 ohm? I have a "sealed" trunk according to the guys here, because my gas tank is in my trunk in the benz, and I guess that theres another firewall inbetween... do you have any idea if that would affect the system? Thanks once again.

JBL's are 1 ohm stable, so it should be fine. 1200 will be good, and that box size is nice too. Just set the gains right and you'll be fine. If in doubt, just keep'm set low.
You could always go infinite baffle, which means you dont use a trunk. Theres a guy on ATOT with a Benz running IB setup, Glen, you could check with him. He prefers IB setups, I prefer boxes. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
I'd use the box you have with a 1200.1 though.

Just curious, what dB level have you hit with your current setup? Also, what are using to push that sub?

I havent been metered personally. I've heard alot of people go over 140 using 1 driver, but it would really depend on install. I'm driving mine with a Revo 1500.1

I've got this pushing 2 Rockford 12's...the highest I've ever hit is 134. I had been looking to replace the box with something smaller, so I could reclaim my trunk space; however, I am concerned with losing the sound I have now. I had looked into the Infinity Basslink, and the Polk Momo thing, but realized both would leave me wanting for sound. I had also looked at a Stroker, but then realized that wouldn't get me anywhere, as it would still need a box just as big as I have now. On a sidenote, could you recommend anything (using the current amp) that would be smaller, yet still retain the same sound?

How big is your box now and whats your budget?

A Shiva is always a good candidate for 600 watts. A Magnum D2 would probably do quite well too, but bang for the buck would probably go to the Shiva, seeing as its 125.

You could also look into Infinity or JL Audio. (Not the Infinity Basslink).
I've heard Infinity subs sound very good, have decent output but are touchy on power. I've heard that you dont wanna go over RMS, bad things happen fast. JL is also good, and generally there drivers can really take a beating.
