Looking to buy a new car, every day driving mostly, but I snowboard a lot, so would like to get an AWD. (yea I know tires are more important, but I don't normally drive in snow, in the bay area, so don't want to spend the extra for snow tires.)

Also, I'm planning to keep the car for probably at least 6~7 years, looking to buy a house in about 3 years or so. Right now, looking at the 328xi, S60 volvo and the G35, my budget is under 40k, hoping for 36, 37k (pre-tax). Any other recommendations?

edit: don't really want to get an STI/EVO, I like to drive auto, and also want something a bit more..luxury.

I want to get a nice ride, not some beater. :)

How nice a ride is the Legacy GT? I'll have to add that to my test drive list.
I heard quite a few bad stories with audis and the cost to maintant them after the warrenty wears out, how is it really?

I like the 300C and G35 best in this segment. S60 is too old and BMW is overpriced. Audi reliability leaves a lot ot be desired.

Can you get a AWD Lexus IS?

EDIT: if you are willing to buy 1 yr old, Acura RL. Relatively uninspiring but a nice ride. Not worth the $50K they are asking new.

I'm liking the Chrysler 300c. Didn't even consider it on the first go around, thanks for the heads up!

The reason I'm considering a BMW is because I can get employee discount on it, 100 over invoice, and a bit more discount on the packages. The Lexus IS seem a bit too small for me when I test drive it. I kind of consider Acuras, but they really seem so...bland.

Looks like I'm going to have to take the 300 and the legacy for a spin. Audi's reliability has me worried though. Thanks guys

Fixed based on the OP's stated needs/preferences. He can get one well-equipped for about $30k plus options and tax.

Depending on where he is, he should be able to get it for a lot less then that. I got my new legacy 2.5i for 20.5 otd. 30+ options and tax is sti price range already.

OP, hit up www.legacygt.com

The GT Limited Wagon comes with most all the bells-and-whistles, so they MSRP at right about $30k IIRC. He could get it a lot cheaper, yes, it he forgoed the turbo in the GT and got a 2.5i like you did. That 70 hp makes a bigger difference IMO though. Or he could give up the leather, sunroof, etc. and get the regular GT for a bit less if he wanted.

Dude, the msrp is around 30k, but who pays msrp on a car? I didn't have a perfect example in my case, but my msrp was 25 and I paid 19. 20.5 was after taxes, fees and everything else.

For a 2007, it only comes in limited now with the leather/sunroof etc now. A new 07 legacy gt should be about 28k before taxes, I'd say.

Yeah, I'm at Edmunds and I see that it only comes in limited for 2007. However, invoice with no options is $28,807 plus destination. Obviously, you want to pay below MSRP, but under invoice?? It seems you got a great deal, but that's not typical.

Invoice + the current incentive of 750 already basically gets him to my price of 28. As I said before though, it really depends on where he is.

If you take a look at this thread on the legacy forums, you'll see that these deals really aren't that uncommon. He'll need to do some work, but they're there.

I understand. I bought my WRX on a similar deal (with quite a number of options) for $23k OTD (invoice minus $750). There's a thread on it here somewhere, dating sometime in March of 03.
It's just that when someone asks for the price of a car, I don't quote the price he'll have to haggle and wheel-and-deal for, I quote the MSRP. That's all I did here. That's why I said "about $30k."

Fair enough with your reasoning. I just like to use a more optomistic price to get them to go with my recommendation. In the end, lets get him in to a subaru.

Too bad they aren't making legacy wagons anymore.
