YACT: Need information on a car alarm

My friend's car was broken into, and I want to help him find a good car alarm. Anyone have any ideas? I don't really know the first place to look for good advice, so I figured I'd start here.

its all about the installation, so pick a shop with good installer or get a DEI alarm, since like they own the whole market now. I've had a top of the line Clifford alarm in my old truck, it was nothing but problem because of the sh!tty installation.

Get the one with the little pager showing which area of the car the sensor picked up the vibrations.
While I appreciate the help, I don't think you quite understand. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CAR ALARMS! I couldn't even tell you a brand name any more (used to know more than I do now). Some idea of a name would be helpful.

So are DEIs good, or does everyone use them because they're cheap and do an alright job.

Thanks for the tip on finding a good installer. I'll look in the area.

go to a best buy or CC and see what they haev in stock there just to see what availble. If you have a Frys they were willing to sell me what i needed and didnt push nothing more, whcih ended up being not much, unlike BB or CC whcih might try and kill you with "extras".
OR go to your local car audio/electronics supply mom/pop store...they will have better stuff usually or the same stuff, sometimes will cost a little more but i think they do a better job usually and explain what each piece might be used for.

DEI or Viper is pretty decent. Watch out for Python box kits.

DEI is the company, their brands include Viper, sidewinder, wasp, hornet, etc, goto their website for more info www.directed.com
they brought clifford a few yrs ago, along with avital? stick with the Viper brand, as it seems like only good shop will carry that brand, and sucky shop will carry the hornet line, eventhough it is pretty much the SAME alarm. The store that carries the hornet line might even sell it to you without installation.
