Finally decided to get rid of my 1997 Monte Carlo that I've had for over six years now. I was tired of the trips to the shop every 3-4 months. Originally I was planning on a G35 but I decided that due to some instabilities at work I'd go for something semi-cheap for now. Hello 2003 Mystic Teal Hyundai Tiburon:

It's no G35 but it's decently fast, fun to drive and nice looking IMO. Unfortunately the sound system is a complete hunk of crap. It claims it's an Infinity system with Infinity speakers but in reality it's pretty much all really low-end JBL. They just both happen to be owned by Harman Kardon so they stuck the Infinity logo on everything. The head unit can't even do random play on CDs for crying out loud. I'm replacing the head unit with an Alpine 8913 from my old car and replacing the speakers with Infinity Kappa 63.5's and 693.5's a Basslink and Pioneer TS-T15 3/4" tweeters (need 3/4" to fit in the factory position, yes the crappy system came with crappy seperates and they went with a non-standard size).

The only thing that might stay in there is the JBL amp, have to check the specs on it first though. The amp in my head unit (60x4 Mosfet) might actually be better or I'll get a cheap 4 channel amp since the sub is already powered.

Edit: One of the main deciding factors was money. Not that I can't afford a G35 I just decided I'd prefer a low payment instead. For a 48 month loan the G35 would've run me $820/month, this car is running me around $430/mo.

The version I got is the 2.7L V6 4 speed automatic. There's no way in hell I'm buying a manual when I have to commute on the 5, 55 and 22 every day. :)

nice cars, i like the way they look as well. what engine did you get? and how much did you have to spend if you dont mind?

I think it's a nice car - my sister test drove one when she was looking for a coupe. The backseat is waaaaaaaaaaaay too small, and that's part of the reason she ended up getting an RSX.

I'm only 5'8 and I had to bend over in order to have my head fit without banging the rear glass.

My mechanic friend recommends throwing these away after the warranty is up, because they will have major problems, and nobody but the dealers will want to work on them.

Actually, I've always looked down on Hyundai, Kia and Daewoo as crap, but then I saw the Tiburon (and it's reviews) online and test drove it and actually liked it. The warranty is very good (5 year, 60k bumper-bumper and 10 year, 100k drive-train) and it's a good value.

I can afford a G35 or BMW 3 series no problem, I just chose to spend my money more carefully now in an uncertain job market.

tiburons get a lot of respect actually, awesome bang for the buck, only reason i'd never consider one is because of its resale value...

I just totalled my '98 Honda Civic LX sedan last november, and got $11k from the insurance company in return...a good enough reason for me to stick with underpowered hondas/acuras :)

Well that's fine. I'll own it by year three or four and I'll most likely sell it or trade it in by year two or three. The full warranty is up to 5 years. I could care less what happens to it after it's gone. :)

It's a nice car, my friend just got one in white. Nice ride, but it is a lil small.

Oh yes, it does have one major advantage over the G35... I CAN UPGRADE THE HEAD UNIT YOU FREAKING BASTARDS! Sorry, it just pisses me off every time I think about the crap they pulled with the G35's sound system. You'd think they'd be smarter about something like that in a $35K car. :)

As an aside, I told my girlfriend I wanted to put a smaller antenna on it and put one of the metallic gas cap covers on and she said basically that would me me either "a) Gay or b) a ricer". :p I just think the metallic cover would look nice there. :)
