My female friend disregarded my and her boyfriend's advice and went to buy a car by herself. This is in California BTW. She got one of the "loss leader" cars but said they ended up charging her about $2k more than the advertised price. Foolishly she caved and bought it right then. Does she have any recourse? Personally I don't think so once you sign on the dotted line since CA doesn't have a "cooling off" period for car sales. But it never hurts to ask.

if she paid more than MSRP she has a recourse.. unless it was due to demand.. but still..

it sucks.. what car did she get?

Corolla. I don't have too many details about the financial numbers or the options on the car. This is just a general kind of inquiry. I did just learn that she leased it rather than buying.

It makes me mad that she let herself get ripped off. I coached her on all kinds of stuff, pretending I was the sales guy. I printed out the "confessions of a car salesman" articles, etc. All that time wasted! Now she's trying to work past the buyer's remorse and enjoy the car :(

update--I just learned she's paying $180 a month for a FIVE year lease with a $5000 residual!!! Sounds like a lot for a simple 4-door Corolla sedan with zero options.

So she didn't buy it, she got a lease???
There may be a bail out clause in the lease....

What year? At least it'll last....I have nearly 122k on a '98 and it's still rock solid.

Man shes getting OWNED.

Well at least your trying to help now and you DID tell her some stuff beforehand.

But it is HER fault that this is happening and shes paying for it. It sucks man but she went ahead with it. Man she got ripped.

Hope she can somehow get out of that lease!

It's a new 2003.

Even worse, she told me that her new boyfriend sells cars for Lexus and she still went by herself :(

I love her but damn! That was pretty dumb!

Some people have to learn life's lessons the hard way.

Probably not her first bad decision, and probably not her last.

No sense in livining in anguish because she's and idiot..mind you I realize she is your friend but you have to agree she made a very foolish decision...I used to feel bad too for people but then got over it as people kept repeating it....
