I started the car in the work parking lot fine. I get on the white horse pike, and the car like blinks. The radio turns off and then back on, the lights go dim, and then get brighter. It was really quick. Then everything just shut off. I pulled off to the side of the highway. Tried to restart it. It didn't work. My phone cant fvcking make outgoing calls right now, because my dad didn't pay the bill because he's fvcking addicted to coke. I had to walk home from atlantic city... something like 10 miles. My dad towed my car back home using a rope and a hook thing. I guess I should also mention that the car was shorting headlights. I was planning on getting that looked at tomorrow while I was at work.

Man... Any ideas? I only wanted the car to last 2 more months so I could buy a new civic. Using that as trade + 2k deposit. This sucks. My life sucks.

Edit: Went out to check the car. It fvcking started? WTF? I'm going to drive the car to the train station (5 mins away) so I don't have to waste cash on a cab. Basically so I can eat today. With this update... Anyone have any ideas?

Edit Again: I tried to drive the car to the train station and it died again. Luckily it died next to an Garage. I pushed it into the garage and they ran some tests. In about 5 minutes they told me the alternator was not giving the battery enough voltage. So I have 2 options, I can let them do the repair it will cost about 250 - 300. Or, I can drop a new battery in it, drive it home, go to the auto parts store and my friend and me can replace the Alternator this weekend for the cost of the part (about 120). I'm not really sure which I should do. My friend is in school right now for Auto-repair and seems very to know what the hell he's talking about.

That's what it sounds like to me.

Depending on the car...that's a $50 repair and you can do it on your own in under an hour. Or it's a $300+ repair taking multiple hours requiring a dealership to drop the engine to get to the damn thing.

89 Galant. I guess I'll buy the part and throw the damn thing in myself. It can't hurt. I just don't want to waste money on this car. I need to save for the new civic. I really just don't know what I should do. I have like 600 bucks in the bank. I'm a poor college student working full time. I make just under 1k a month. I pay 200 in rent, 200 in insurance... and if I add a car payment that's another 200... I'm supposed to cover gas and food with like 300 bucks a month? Maybe I'll go get a night job at WaWa and not sleep.

This isn't funny man. My grams is dying of cancer. My father has a serious addiction. I can't save the world. My dad borrows like 20 bucks off me everyday, and when you're me that's alot.

edit: I'm paying my grams 200 bucks a month in rent. If she dies, I don't know where I'm gonna go.

make sure that's the problem first before you go buying parts...just hook up jumper cables and start the car...if you take the jumper cables off and the car dies, chances are that's the problem

Giving him $20 a day for coke isn't helping him either, you need something to get around in more then he needs coke.

I make 10 bucks an hour doing technical support. I think that's pretty good for a 20 year old college student. Maybe I'm wrong? I was going to be promoted to road technician but I don't think I can do that with a dead car. That's like 13 and hour + gas money. I'm going to finish college, that's not an option. That's just something I have to do. I have no where to go. The only thing I can possibly think of is to move in with my aunt. But I'd need a car to commute back and forth to school and work. From here it's about a 2 mile walk to the train station. Which will get me to work. I guess I can borrow my grams car to get to class. I will have to see.

Bright then dim then bright and then nothing? Sounds to me like shorted battery, badly corroded terminals, or battery wire come loose or off.

If it was the alt the car lights and radio would of went out slowly since the car would of just been running only off the battery and sucked all the juice out of it. Wouldnt go bright and dim and then just quit.

Now if the battery shorted out then I can understand bright and dim and why the car will not restart. And if it shorted out and you get it jumped remove the pos cable and if it dies then check your fuses under the hood and under the dash for it could of took the charging system fuse out or worse took out the alt with it. Hell it could even be a battery wire gone bad and come off. But I would check these first before throwing in a alt.

You make more than me and I bring in around $1300 after taxes.

Good ideas funboy. Thank you very much for your suggestions. I will wake up a few hours before I have to leave for work and take a look at some of these things. I don't really know much about cars, but I guess I'll be able to manage.

Health insurance sucks. Basically I make 300 a week, working a 40 hour week. Subtract 50 for health insurance (which is being cancelled) 250... 250x4=1k
