I had to do some semi hard braking a couple times today... and my brake pedal would vibrate and I heard a scraping noise apparently coming from the pedal area. Is this what it sounds like when wheels lock up? I don't have ABS.
Unless the rust seizes something, you're fine. Apply the brakes firmly a couple times and the rust should be effectively polished off. The rear drums in my old Accord would rust a little after the car had set for a few weeks at school, and the noise would go away after a few stops.Originally posted by: ElFenix
my disks get rusty fast and sound like they're grinding... i don't think its a good thing
From his post: "I don't have ABS."Originally posted by: Evadman
ABS makes a horatious racket. it could be the ABS. It fits with the noise and pedal pulsing.

That's possible.... How often are brake pads usually changed?

A lot less often than every 6,000 miles. You sure you're not just locking up the brakes and the noise is tires sliding across pavement?

Tires spinning usually makes a squealing noise, locked up brakes on wet pavement make a noise more like dragging a heavy cardboard box across cement or something.

That was the noise... So I guess it was the brakes locking. I was talking about spinning tires in the wet though, which is just a ptptptptpt sound for me.

In that case, brake softer and start braking farther from where you want to stop. If you're locking the brakes up, you're drivinbg too fast or stopping too quick for the conditions.
