I need some advice on my current car so I thought I'd appeal to the wise mechanically minded members of this forum.

Situation: My entire exhaust pipe + muffler have no supports right now. Whatever was holding the muffler up (strap or something?) must have given out a while back, and shortly afterwards the other clamps, etc on the exhaust pipe broke or something. (yes Im a moron about this, feel free to point it out :(.

Anyway, I need to get every support from the catalytic converter (sp?) down to the muffler. I went into a parts store but couldnt find the right parts (let alone that I didnt know which ones I needed).
Could anyone spell it out for me what I will need?

Secondly, this car has about 75k miles on it, a little rust on the outside, but the underneath looks pretty well rusted. I'm trying to decide how much longer this car will last me and if its worth taking it into a mechanic and getting it tuned up, and gone over with a fine tooth comb to see what if anything needs replaced. I would just take it in anyway but I'm just recently married and in school still (1 semester left).

Anyway, a somewhat rambling post but I appreciate any insight.

Thanks

PS the back seat floor, on the left side keeps getting soaked with water when it rains. Any clue which part of my car is leaking? :-/

From the rusted out condition you describe I wouldn't spend anything on the car I didn't have to. Get a roll of mechanic's wire, climb under the car with a pair of wire cutters and just wire the exhaust system up everyplace you can. As far as a tuneup, just buy some plugs, wires, rotor and distributor cap. You may want to replace the fuel filter as well if it isn't located inside the gas tank.

Just take it to a muffler shop and have it fixed. It will be cheaper than you think.

(Btw, 1991 Cavs don't have distro caps I think. They have that coil pack garbage.)

2.8/3.1 probably won't, but the 2.2L probably does.
