I'm looking for a used car and came across...well MAZDA 6!

Looking at couple of used one around my area...some of them are cheaper than the mazda3 !

I'm just wondering if there's anything wrong with the Mazda 6 that makes it cheaper than the 3? (reliability issue?!)

I don't want to put the car into shop every other week. Couple of other cars I'm looking at its Acura Rsx and E46 325. But some of these Mazda6s are so cheap that it seem like too good of a deal to pass.

Help me out ATOT 😉

It's not a reliability issue, it's just that there is more demand for the 3 making it more expensive.

I upgraded from a Protege and love my 6, didn't even bother trying out the 3 :heart:

 
the auto tranny on the V6 6 blows, slow to downshift, costed me a couple seconds on the mazdaspeed course.
 
I test drove a 6 before I bought my 3.

I only didn't like it because it's too "mom" looking. My Mazda3 hatch is bitchin!

Mom Looking? I have a 2004i Mazda Hatchback and it kicks all 3's to the curb. You may be thinking of the "SEDAN" 6......... That trunk sucks a**.

Mazda3 Hatch looks like crap! Worst of all the Mazda 3/6 versions!

I would disagree(btw, nice pic of your car)...except if it came to the Mazdaspeed 6(that's a greater step up in price). Anyways, Mazda6 is a decent car all around, handles nice, decent interior, can't say too much about the pick up on it though.

Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln Zephyr are all based on the Mazda6 platform as well. FF and MM have pretty much the same engine and transmission too(except on the V6, unless Mazda put in the 5sp auto recently), so that's something to consider as well. And of course, they all handle great as well.

But the cars you talk of based on the 6 are all "CLUNKY", Crap Looking....... (fill in the blanks) cars. I test drove a Ford Fusion and it felt like a crap Ford Taurus.

I personally believe if you're trying to look for a "fast" car, FWD isn't the way to go. Doesnt mean its a bad car. It's probably one of the most balanced vehicles in terms of daily driving and speed.

With that said, I :heart: my 06 MTX Mazda6i.

I had a Mazda6S wagon for a year and a half that I liked pretty well. It was a good, reliable car (except for one strange time where it went dead and wouldn't start, dealer couldn't explain it), and I got ~24mpg in mixed driving. The one thing I didn't like was the light colored cloth seats, they were always dirty. I got it for a really good price and ended up trading it in for $400 less than I paid, not bad for 35K miles. In the end, it just wasn't big enough for my family of 5 so we traded it on an Odyssey.

I will agree with this to an extent. I'm not a super aggressive driver, but my wife is (go figure), and she complained a lot about pulling out into traffic when she really probably shouldn't have, and the transmission would take a bit too long to downshift and take off. I kept telling her to use the manumatic instead but that was too much to ask of her 🙂.

Not to threadjack, but last night I made the mistake of taking my friend car shopping - I am no extreme enthusiast, but damn, I love my cars. (or at least I tend to think I do) I saw a Mazda6 last night for $16k (2004, v6, automatic, that deep purply-blue :heart: ) and I'm not sure of the mileage, but I know I want it. 🙂 I currently drive a 2003 Neon SXT, which works great for me, but the 6 was talking to me in my sleep last night telling me I should buy it!

I have a year and a half left in college and the last thing I need is an increased car payment, but I think the 6 would be worth it. It seemed to have some extra options like the Bose stereo (not sure if that's standard, but from what I've looked at seems to make it an extra option), moonroof, 17" rims (not hubcaps), and the car alarm.

Ugh, this is going to be a long year and a half...I have been wanting a newer STi for when I graduate, but the Mazda6 sounds and looks so attractive for the price. Though, the AWD of the STi would be nice in the winter...

Uh, no. The 3 is simply a much more enjoyable car to drive. The seating position, steering response, suspension, and shifter are all so much better feeling in the smaller car than they are in the 6. The 2.3 in the 3 is much more enjoyable to drive than either of the engines in the 6. The 3 is just a lot more fun to fling around than it's bigger, bloated brother.
