YACT: Manual Transmission hesitating when shifting gears

I searched for this, but none of the threads I found seemed to really be relevant. So no wisecracks about there being a ton of threads on this subject. :p

Anyway, I have a '93 Saturn SL2 (quiet all you naysayers, I'm a poor college student and at 190,000 miles it's given me little to no trouble, present problem excluded). It's a stick, and lately I've noticed that when I'm shifting gears, predominantly 1st and 2nd, the car hesitates when I press down on the gas. It stutters a little, then something seems to catch and the RPMs jump up and it runs normally.

This doesn't happen all the time, and seems to happen less often after it has time to warm up, but it does still do it. I checked the transmission fluid and it's full, so that's not the problem. Anyone have any advice? I'm leaving for school next Monday, so if I can do it myself without having to take it to a crap place like Jiffy Lube (my regular mechanic, who's an awesome guy, will probably be booked for the rest of this week), that would be most beneficial.

It also does it when I first turn the car on, it feels a little muddy when it's in Neutral and the same thing happens as when I shift gears (when I press the accelerator, it's hesitates and doesn't rev up right away).

Any help would be most appreciated. :)

If it hesitates in neutral, then it's an engine problem, not tranny. Hesitation like that can have several causes.

i'd love to hear how you checked your transmission fluid level on a manual gearbox when you speak of jiffy lube in the same sentence.

In case you missed it, I was deriding Jiffy Lube. I would NEVER go to a place like that. I was merely saying I didn't want to HAVE to, because of time constraints.

Sounds like the clutch, same thing was happening on my 99 S-10

Try this test ( was told by my mechanic this usally will tell you your clutch needs to be replaced) warm up your car come to a complete stop put it in second or third gear and pop your clutch, if it stalls clutch is still good
if it just kinda bogs and then slowly takes off it's your clutch.

Can't say it will work with all manuals, but perhaps someone on here
can give you more of a insite such as ViperGT ect ect or better yet take
it to a tranny shop or a Saturn dealer.

Also do you have to kinda force it in gear, really tough to get in gear while shifting?
