manuals are always funner, I manage to have fun in a 1989 f-350 with a 7.4l diesel and a 5 speed

I would imagine the foot-ton of torque helps with that. ;)

yeah, and the 120mm turbo/4" straight exhaust :D

V8 turbo? :Q I know its extremely heavy, but is that truck fast?

EDIT: Nvm, noticed it was a diesel. :p

There are fast trucks.

Dodge Ram SRT-10? :p

This one's got some power too

The SRT-10 > that IMO.

Anyways, I test drove a new TL today. I'm still new to stick and didn't want to fvck up someone else's potentially brand new car, so I didn't redline/VTEC it at all. I just shifted at 4-5k RPM. I love the shifter, but the one in the S2000 and Civic Si seemed a little bit shorter, but this one was still great. The only thing I didn't like is that it didn't seem as nimble or tossable as the Civic Si, but that's obvious. The luxurious interior was great, and the standard features were impressive.

I have a couple of months to decide, but from what I can tell, it was awesome in every way except agility.

i totally forgot to mention, the 6 speed TL is more than just tranny difference, the 6 speed model has bigger sway bars front/rear and better brakes over automatic model.

JEBUS you are right!

I have a 07 auto as a loaner right now. No balls. Disappointing compared to my manual.

Probably because of a 5 spped vs. 6 speed.

No, because it loses power through the torque converter, hence it's not putting like ~5% of the power to the ground. The extra gear isn't really helpful, it's the gearing that makes the difference.

Well that's what I"m talking about as well - shorter gears on the 6sp.

Well after spending a good day with the Auto TL, and as big of a fan as I am of the TL as an owner.

This thing is a turd. I don't know if it's the tranny or the torque converter or what, but it's slow. Now where near the speed and power of the 6MT. Avoid.

On the topic of gearing between the two. VERY different. Be interesting to see the difference in the ratios. Across the entire RPM range I'm in a lower gear with the 6MT compared to the auto (duh!). I kept begging the auto to pull as hard as it does in 2/3/4 of the MT with the auto and it just wasn't there.

BOOO.

Thanks for the advice. My next car will definitely be stick, and I'm loving the Acura TL more and more as I read more about it. The only thing I'm not too sure about is the rattle/creak problems and the alignment problems? These were two problems addressed on AcuraZine.

No car is perfect. You'll drive yourself insane on forums nitpicking every single flaw to death. Then you'll have buyers remorse instead of loving your car.

heh, that's one thing the Internet is real good at - making you regret your purchase.

true. i bought a TSX the first year it was available and did a lot of reading over at Acurazine. i let worries about creaks and such temper my enjoyment of having a nice new car. in truth, the TSX/TL creak and rattle problem is nothing you won't see on any other car and probably is less an issue than on other cars.

another way to think about it: would you expect to see accord/civic/camry/altima/etc owners bitching about something like creaks? probably not. that's something acrua/lexus/infiniti owners will be doing.
