My friend is telling me this is a "cruising" car and should only be bought with an automatic transmission. But, I really want to drive manual, want the power of a V6, and like the prices of used TL's. What do you guys think?

The fact that it's a boring "cruising" vehicle makes for all the more it should be driven in manual form if you want to that little bit of extra oomph.

For under $24K, I don't see a better choice that will pass the new 2008 "Gas Guzzler" tax. Who wants to pay an extra +$1000 on their car yearly?

ya, it is kinda contradicting to buy a TL manual... since it supposed to be a luxury car.

but, hey, do as you wish.

Typo?
07 TL starts at $33,625 w/ 5 speed automatic
07 TL Type-S is $38,125 w/ 6 speed manual

No 6-speed manual on the regular 07 TL.

There are rumors that the 08 TL will be a complete redesign.

Acural TL is considered luxury? At best I consider it middle-class, in honesty luxury never comes to mind when I think of anything Acura.

Get G35 6MT. If you want fun to drive, why not go all the way and get RWD with your manual?

cuz VTECH ownZ j0000

Only in the eyes of Honduh fanboys.

It's a joke. Anywho the TL really isnt that much of a drivers car but hey get it if you want. It's a nice enough car but I don't think anyone will kill you for getting auto. supafly posted that you can only get manual on the T-s only so that should pretty much make up ur mind.

How does the 5 speed auto hold up? I know they had some problems with other autos in the past.

Too bad Infiniti (Nissan) has their own version (Variable Valve Timing, VVT) of Variably Timed Electronically Controlled lifters in the VQ35 engine :p. The New G37 will feature an even better version... I forget what it's called though.

Just buy a car with one of the Manual Shift Modes so you can be a Vin Diesel on the fly.

intended translation: "those silly proletarians, believing that their pitiful Acuras are luxury vehicles. i would never step foot in such a filthy automobile. true luxury doesn't start until $50,000. in my car, i demand that the leather on my seats be made from 10-day old corn-fed veal, that the engine be forged and constructed by hand by italian master mechanics, and that the body be encrusted in precious gems."

A used G35 holds its value better than a TL, so it is out of my price range. :( RWD > FWD, I know. I'm thinking if the TSX or Accord would be a better choice in stick. The new Altima cannot be found in stick in So Cal. I test drove a Civic Si, and while it's a bit underpowered and torqueless, I loved the shifter/clutch. I am assuming Acuras will be the same.

EDIT: 6MT's and 5AT's come with 2004/2005 TL's.

You'd be surprised at the pull the 6MT has at highway speeds. You can go from 70 to 100 real quick.

"gutless or torqueless" isn't a word I would use to describe one. While not a ton of power, it's got plenty. 4th gear can get you in trouble. You can bark the tires at 80 MPH.

I have a 6mt 06. It's nice, I wish I had the auto though. The manual is nice, but it's not a sports car. Plus torque steer in lower gear is ridiculous.

Yeah, torque steer is no fun. I was looking at sporty mid-range 6MT sedans and settled with an A4 Sline with Titanium package. I'll be receiving it in a month! Wooohoooo

With a manual trans the price is almost $5K more! That is a lot and shouldn't it be cheaper with a stick?

The TL-S comes w/ more power and a larger engine (like it really needs it). And a few other goodies like NAV. That's why the price difference is so high.

gone are the days when you saved money by going with a manual.

Read my post above. Also in previous years the manual was the same price because it came with an LSD and Brembo front brakes.
