S4s get stolen in NYC like no other ... I've owned a b5 A4, so I heard all the stories. All you need to do is punch a hole by the door handle and then pull on the mechanism underneath to unlock the car.

if you're solely looking for a weekend cruiser a porsche is a wonderful pure sports car. it is NOT luxurious as some have stated. it is cramped, hard, but drives like a ******.

the m3 will be more of a compromise because in my opinion is a blend between a luxury vehicle and a sports coupe (however awesome it may be). still shitfaced acceleration and handles like it's on rails, and has the luxury of all of bmw's gizmos and seats five fairly comfortably, but it is still not a SPORTS CAR.

but coming from that (IMHO) 'drives like a boat' mercedes clk it's still a huge step up.

anyway they are two entirely different cars for two entirely different markets. you have to decide which car suits you better.

this comes from personal experience driving a porsche 911, merc clk(320 not 430), and my m3.

I think you would be surprised with the V8 CLK. They firmed up the suspension a lot and with the proper rubber (mine is 235 front 265 rear ) it stays glued to the pavement.

That being said though, the 'adaptive' auto tranny is a big disappointment... if that car came with manual, it would be a blast.

what's wrong with 99 carreras? everything. They have quiet a lot of problems (since 993 was air-cooled, and 996 is the first-gen to be water-cooled). They fixed the problem in the 01+. If you are to go with a carrera, go with the carrera S. I wouldn't recommend a Carrera 4S because it's not as fun as a C2S. If the 911 is really out of your budget, you can never go wrong with a m3.
