YACT: Low 30K to spend SUV/X-over vehicle. what ones to look at?

Ones im thinking of having my mom look at:
SRX
RX330
FX35 (lil high though)
B9 Tribeca

what other vehicles are out there that are SUV's/Crossovers which will comfortably fit 4 ppl w/ storage space, sometimes more. 3 of the ppl are 6' and 1 is 5'7.

needs to have a very comfortable ride for longer trips, but also be driveable round town. MPG doesnt really matter that much.

Thanks

Highlander. Although it's up for a refresh shortly.

That being said, it's still a safe, roomy, comfortable, quiet, functional, and economical choice. At 30k, you are just a bit out of Limited range. For just a bit under 27k I got the 4WD V6 with power driver seat, 3rd row seating, and auto dimming mirror.

I think you can add leather to it for about $1500. Or bump up to the Limited with all the bells and whistles for around $35,000.

It has more room than the RX or the FX. More functional than either of them as well. The Caddy is nice but $$$$$, no real world exposure to the Subaru. I just know that the grill is ugly and it's very $$$$$$ for what you get as well.

The first three vehicles you listed start in at least the mid 30k-40k range.

For a nice crossover though, I'd recommend the Murano. The Endeavor and Highlander are also very solid choices as well.

SRX w/ GMS is low-mid 30's
330 is TMV of 33

forgot about the Murano

I like the Nissan Murano. My friends and I used one from WI to NY last fall. It rode nicely, and carried everything we needed.

The Subaru Forester would be a great option, also. Maybe not as sporty as the others, but it's very reliable and has a great AWD system.

We looked at Murano's before buying a Highlander. It was certainly a "neater" car. More bells and whistles, ect. But for what we ended up going with the Highlander because it was a more functional vehicle. The cargo area was a lot bigger on the Toyota, the back seats were more flexible in regards to passenger comfort, and the blind spots weren't anywhere as bad.

The Highlander also had incredible lease rates at the time...almost a full $100 a month less than the Nissan.

Back seat space/comfort is terrible since it's technically in the compact class. Two people over 6' are not going to be comfortable back there for any duration of time.

The Honda Pilot is also a great choice. It'll offer more room and 3rd row seating when needed than the others.

The SRX though starts at close to 40k and the FX/RX start at 35k-36k, not sure where you're getting your figures from.

The Equinox is a bit underpowered compared to the choices above but it definitely provides a lot of room for rear space passengers..possibly the most out of any of the vehicles listed above.

It's also pretty cheap as well, and I don't think your mom would care all that much about the power..

True, only 185hp but I thought that engine was pretty torquey. Also fully-loaded with AWD, its under $26k thanks to GM Employee Pricing.

sorry iono the prices; it's probably out of yoru price range but the x4 4.4 is a fantastic vehicle

Last few were:

94 Jeep Grand Cherokee, just retired, 264k - from what I can tell, the newer ones are basically the similar. Small interior in comparison to the others. Relatively problem free, but had to install a new transmission @ 130ish IIRC

99 Ford Expedition - a dog, 3 trannies in 80k, big, sloppy, wouldn't fit in some parking garages, terrible. I think the model has since been revised, but I would make sure it's not just a body revision if this one is considered.

02 Ford Explorer - 85k so far, just changed a wheel bearing, roomy, handles well, sporty feel to the ride. Supposedly seats 7, but third seat is for 8 year old size kids and under. Would buy again.

yes, the SRX w/o Discount starts at 40K.

w/ discount

and i dont have to worry about that discount ever going away. 😉

Edmunds shows the FX at about 33k TMV as well as the 330.

and yes, i forgot about the equinox its supposed to be a great car also will look at that.

There's also the Ford Freestyle. It doesn't have a lot of power, but I've read that the performance with the CVT isn't as bad as you'd think. It's roomy for a crossover and you can certainly get a great deal on it. It's not as exciting or upscale as the other cars on your list but pretty much all the reviews I've seen say it's a well-rounded vehicle that does what it's supposed to.

Chrysler Pacifica - Car based chasis, AWD, 250HP available with a lot of luxury features and can seat 6 if needed. Has rear seat buckets for the comfort of rear seat passengers.
Starts at $25K and goes to $38K MSRP, with discounts the most loaded up one with Chrome 19" wheels, leather, AWD, moonroof, power everything and DVD Video is about $32K.

Jeep Grand Cherokee - 4.7L 245HP V8, plenty of cargo space and great ride quality.

Isuzu Axim -

Mercury Mariner -

Lincoln Aviator - 300HP V8, plush luxury and heavily discounted will get you into the low 30's.

Good call on the Pacifica. I can attest to the captains chairs in the back. They are very nice for riding longer distances and have plenty of leg room.
